(Peru, Neb.) – After a 25-15 opening set victory, the Peru State Bobcat volleyball team dropped the next three sets to the visiting Baker University Wildcats on Tuesday night. The Wildcats, now 3-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action, won 25-17, 25-20, 25-11, and now are 14-6 on the year.
The Bobcats fell to 11-9 overall after losing their third straight match. This was Peru State's first conference play and they fell to 0-1 in the HAAC.
Game Statistics
Neither team hit particularly well, but that was credited more to each team's defense. Baker ended up hitting .181 while the Bobcats finished with a .068 hitting percentage.
Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) led the Bobcats with eight kills while
Bre Brandt (Papillion) added seven. Sarah Mertens
(Lincoln) and
Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.) each had five kills.
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) and
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) each had 13 assists to lead the Peru State setting efforts.
Harsh had three service aces while
Paige Young (Gretna), Angie Bowers (Alda), and Jurek each had one service ace.
Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) led the team with 15 digs while
Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) added 11. Harsh contributed nine digs with Jurek adding eight.
Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) and Brandt each had two solo blocks. Mertens, Peterson, Brandt, and
Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) each added one block assist.

Peru State will be on the road this Friday to take on the Spires of the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. Presently, the Spires are 8-10 overall.
