Volleyball Falls To Vikings On The Road

(Des Moines, Iowa.)- The Peru State College volleyball team traveled to take on Heart of America Athletic Conference foe Grand View on Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats lost in straight sets with a scoreline of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-17.
 
Peru State falls to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in Heart play while the Vikings rise to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in Conference action.
 
The first set began with neither team able to pull away as a Grand View error gave the Bobcats a one-point advantage 9-8, The Vikings answered through a 6-1 run to take the lead 14-10 while Peru State responded through a 5-1 run to knot the score at 15. Both teams would trade 2-0 runs to keep the score even at 17, but an 8-1 series from Grand View would end the set 25-18.
 
Peru State took an early 4-1 lead to begin the second set, but Vikings stretches of 8-2, 11-2 and 5-3 took the second set 25-11.
 
Grand View jumped into a 5-2 advantage to start the third until a 6-2 Bobcat series took the lead (8-7), five straight Viking points forced a Peru State timeout and took back the lead 12-8 but a 5-2 push by the Bobcats cut the lead within one (14-13). Grand View found a 7-2 run to draw the final timeout by Peru State (21-15), and a final Viking series of 4-2 won the set and the game 25-17.
 
Offensively Shealie Wiebers (Papillion, Nebraska. / Papillion-La Vista High School) led the Bobcats with eight kills while Eden Moore (Eagle, Nebraska. / Waverly High School) had six, Teodora Bulatovic (Tivat, Montenegro. / SMŠ "Mladost" Tivat) paced the team with 16 assists while Samantha Chesley (Lincoln, Nebraska. / Pius X High School) notched seven.
 
Defensively Wiebers put up 11 digs while Braelyn Braithwaite (Elkhorn, Nebraska. / Elkhorn South High School) posted 10, Addison Schneider (Humphrey, Nebraska. / Humphrey High School) found the only solo block for Peru State.
 
The Bobcats return to action in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on Tuesday which will be a Going Gold Awareness game partnering with Angels Among Us in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Peru State will be hosting Graceland as the away team.
