Bobcat Volleyball falls to Mo Valley

(Peru, Neb.) – Playing in their first Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action of the season, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcats fell to the host Missouri Valley College Vikings. 
 
After a slow start, the 'Cats fought hard with the Vikings, but fell 25-10, 26-24, 25-18.  With the loss, PSC is now 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.  Mo Valley improved to 4-3 overall and start the HAAC with a 1-0 mark.
 
Game Action
 
Offensively, Tara Gonzalez (Lincoln) and Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah), both finishing with seven kills, led Peru State.  Peterson finished with an outstanding .466 attack percentage as she finished the night without any attack errors.  The .466 hitting average is compared to a .300 batting average in baseball.  Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) finished with five kills.
Courtney Jurek and Tara Gonzalez

 Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) led the team in setting with 19 assists and had the team's lone service ace.  Paige Riza (Ravenna, Texas) added eight assists.
 
Defensively, Emily Maresh (Central City) maintained her digs per set average by getting 19 digs on the night.  Maresh was also the team's top passer in service receptions with 25 good passes.

Becky Boshart (Wood River) and Kate Donovan (Greeley) added ten and eight digs respectively.  Boshart added 17 good service receptions while Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) added 15.
 
Next Action
 
This weekend, the 'Cats will be playing in a tough Quality Inn Classic, hosted by Hastings College, where they will face three schools from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).  On Friday, PSC will play their only non-GPAC opponent, Grand View University, at noon.  Then, at 4 p.m., the 'Cats will play Concordia University.  On Saturday, PSC will play Dordt College at 2 p.m. and will finish the tournament with the hosts at 6 p.m.
 
In the first 2012 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, Grand View is ranked eighth with a 7-1 record.  The Broncos of Hastings are tenth among those teams receiving votes.
 
The following Tuesday, PSC will have their second HAAC game when they go to Atchison, Kan., to play Benedictine College.
