Women's Basketball Falls to Benedictine

Box Score (Peru, Neb.)- Peru State Women's Basketball falls 79-59 in Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball action.

The Bobcats trailed 48-36 at halftime and 63-52 entering the fourth quarter but remained within striking distance behind efficient scoring from MaKinley Tobey and Erison Vonderschmidt. Benedictine, however, clamped down defensively in the final 10 minutes, limiting Peru State to just seven fourth-quarter points while outscoring the Bobcats 16-7 to pull away. The Ravens forced 18 turnovers in the game while committing only seven, converting those extra possessions into a sustained double-digit lead in the second half.

Tobey and Vonderschmidt paced Peru State with 16 points apiece. Tobey knocked down 4 of 10 attempts from beyond the arc and finished 6 of 15 from the field while logging 37 minutes. Vonderschmidt was a force in the paint, going 6 of 8 from the floor, a perfect 4 of 4 at the free-throw line, and adding three blocks and four rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Their combined scoring helped keep the Bobcats within single digits for much of the first three quarters.

Peru State produced its best stretch coming out of the locker room, winning the third quarter 16-15 and briefly slowing Benedictine's rhythm. Vonderschmidt's interior scoring and rim protection, coupled with Tobey's perimeter shooting, helped the Bobcats cut into the margin and stay within 11 heading to the fourth at 63-52. Defensively, Peru State recorded five blocks on the night and held the Ravens to 5 of 23 shooting from 3-point range, battling to stay in the game despite the possession disadvantage.

Peru State shot a solid 42.3% from the floor and 33.3% from 3-point range (7 of 21) while converting 8 of 10 free throws. Alongside Tobey and Vonderschmidt's 32 combined points.
