(Des Moines, Iowa)- The Peru State women's basketball team saw its season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Conference Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 25
th in Des Moines, Iowa.
Peru State, who served as the No. 6 seed in the tourney, fell to No. 3 seed Grand View, 60-80.
Peru State came out aggressive, jumping to an early 7-3 lead behind a three pointer by
Erison Vonderschmidt and strong interior play. Grand View settled in and were able to climb back and take an 8-7 advantage, then added on to their score leading 21-14 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Grand View continue to build on their advantage over Peru State. Every time Peru State tried to mount a run, Grand View had an answer. The Vikings took a 39-28 lead into half time.
In the second half, Peru State never quit fighting, but the Vikings lead was too much to overcome. Grand View finished the game with a 80-60 victory.
The Peru State Bobcats were led by
Erison Vonderschmidt with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
MaKinley Tobey finished with 14 points and 3 rebounds.
Savannah Bingham and
Kylie Diaz each finished with 8 points.
Katelyn Sanders finished with 7 points.
Peru State finishes the year with a 15-13 record and a 12-8 mark in the Heart of America Conference. The overall record of 15-13 was the best record in fifteen years. The conference record of 12-8 was the best conference record in twenty-five years.
