Peru, Neb.)– The Peru State volleyball team put together a dominant performance Friday night, sweeping Briar Cliff (Iowa) in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-22, inside the AWAC. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 7-3 on the season.
The Bobcats controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an efficient .284 as a team while holding the Chargers to just .092. Peru State's balanced attack featured four players with at least seven kills. Alejandra Villareal led the way with 10 kills on .421 hitting, while
Addison Schneider added nine kills at a .471 clip along with four blocks.
Kennedy Miller was nearly unstoppable, finishing with seven kills on a .636 percentage and four block assists.
Eden Moore chipped in eight kills and three digs.
Defensively, the Bobcats were just as strong, tallying 50 digs and 10 total blocks.
Braelyn Braithwaite anchored the back row with 13 digs, while
Shealie Wiebers added 11. At the net,
Brinley Falkinburg and Schneider combined for seven blocks, helping to shut down Briar Cliff's offense.
Set one saw Peru State build a big lead midway through and close it out 25-17 behind timely kills from Schneider and Villareal. The Bobcats rolled in set two, hitting .278 and using strong serving runs, including a pair of aces, to take the frame 25-16. Briar Cliff threatened late in the third set, pulling within two points, but Peru State's front line came through with key blocks to seal the 25-22 victory and the sweep.
Sami Chesley directed the offense with 23 assists, while
Alina Hoxha chipped in 14. From the service line, the Bobcats finished with five aces, including one each from Villareal, Braithwaite, Wiebers, Schneider, and
Kennedy Miller.
