(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State volleyball team earned its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory of the season Friday night, sweeping William Penn in straight sets (26-24, 25-18, 25-20).
The Bobcats battled through a tight opening set that featured 14 ties before pulling away late on a pair of clutch kills from Shealie Wiebers and Eden Moore. Peru State then controlled the second set behind efficient hitting, posting a .348 attack percentage with 12 kills to take a 2-0 lead.
In the final frame, the Bobcats used a balanced offensive attack and timely serving to close out the sweep, recording five service aces in the set.
Wiebers paced the Bobcats with 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double, while Moore added 10 kills and hit nearly .300. Addison Schneider was also efficient with seven kills on a .400 hitting percentage and two block assists. Setter Sami Chesley dished out 21 assists and added seven digs, while Braelyn Braithwaite chipped in 10 digs and two aces.
As a team, Peru State tallied 41 kills on .237 hitting, along with 13 aces and 55 digs.
The win improves the Bobcats to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in Heart play, while William Penn falls to 14-10 an
