(Atchison, Kan.)- The Peru State football team couldn't overcome a powerful Benedictine offense on Saturday afternoon, falling 70-30 at Larry Wilcox Stadium.
The Bobcats opened strong, building a 10-0 lead in the first quarter behind a 23-yard field goal from Parker Cushing and a short touchdown pass from CJ Dixon to Bryant Thomas. After the Ravens answered, Dixon connected with Daylan Jones for a 75-yard strike in the second quarter to keep Peru State within striking distance at 21-16.
Benedictine, however, seized momentum with 35 points in the second quarter alone to lead 42-16 at the break. Despite second-half scores from Thomas on another touchdown grab and a two-yard rushing touchdown from Dixon, the Ravens continued their offensive surge to seal the win.
Peru State finished with 479 yards of offense, highlighted by Dixon's 286 yards passing and three touchdowns through the air. Thomas led the receiving corps with four catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns, while Jones added two receptions for 95 yards and a score. On the ground, Robert Armes rushed nine times for 109 yards, including a long of 58.
Defensively, Kyle Jordan and Nathaniel Ortega paced the Bobcats with six tackles apiece, while Latrell McGhee added an interception.
