Baseball Opens Season at Oklahoma Panhandle State

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Baseball Team opened their season at Oklahoma Panhandle State on February 7th and 8th. The Bobcats took one win away from the weekend. The Bobcats are now 1-3 overall.
 
Game 1 (Peru State 0 - OPSU 3)
 
Kicking off the season, the Bobcats put forward Kevin Diaz as the starting pitcher. Despite a solid performance, the game ultimately leaned towards Oklahoma Panhandle State, who improved their season record to 5-4, while Peru State College started their season at 0-1. During the game, Jonas Meairs-Richman, who pinch-ran for Gustavo Rivera, made a noteworthy effort but was unfortunately picked off at first base, highlighting some of the finer moments of in-game strategy. The Bobcats now look forward to their next game, aiming for a strong comeback after this initial setback.
 
Game 2 (Peru State 1 - OPSU 2)
 
The Bobcats, under the guidance of their starting pitcher Casey Ogden, fought hard but couldn't secure a win against the Auggies. Xavier Solla was a standout performer for Peru State, crossing the plate for the team's only run of the game. The notable RBI came from Antonio Benitez, who connected for a critical single in the third inning that brought Solla home. Despite their efforts, the Bobcats fell to a 0-2 record for the season, while the Auggies improved their standing to 6-4.
 
Game 3 (Peru State 5 - OPSU 6)
 
Peru State College showcased strong performances, notably from Antonio Benitez who impressed with several walks and multiple stolen bases, not only advancing but also setting up crucial scoring opportunities. Gustavo Rivera was a standout player, driving in runs with a notable home run and multiple hits, adding several RBIs to his night. Additionally, Gustavo Rivera's pivotal home run to left field brought considerable momentum to the Bobcats. Tyson Fancher also contributed significantly, singling to center field to bring Airam Betancourt home in a key play of the game. Blake Denson started on the mound for the Bobcats, showing a solid pitching performance. Garrett Pavletich also took to the mound for several innings, drawing multiple walks.
 
Game 4 (Peru State 8 - OPSU 5)
 
Notable performances came from Antonio Benitez, Gustavo Rivera, Garrett Pavletich, Tyson Fancher, and Xavier Solla who all scored runs contributing to the team's success. Gustavo Rivera stood out with multiple key hits, emphasizing his critical role in the team's lineup. The match saw Garrett Pavletich, Tyson Fancher, Jomar Perez, Jaled Mercader, Doel Pina, and Xavier Solla driving in the crucial runs needed to outpace the Auggies. The pivotal moment came during the 5th inning when Peru State orchestrated a decisive 3-run rally, dramatically shifting the momentum in their favor. Starting pitcher Dylan Pavletich provided a solid start, setting the stage for the team's success.
 
Next: The Bobcats will be on the road to Roger, Arkansas on February 14th and 15th. The Bobcats will play on Friday against Central Christian College at 11am and Dordt at 2pm. On Saturday, they will play Dordt at 1pm and Central Christian College at 4pm.
