(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State men's basketball team opened their 2025–26 season with a historic performance Thursday night, shattering a program scoring record that had stood since 1965. The Bobcats poured in 120 points in a commanding 120–67 victory over Union Adventist University inside the AWAC, surpassing the previous mark of 119 set nearly six decades ago against Tarkio College.
Peru State came out firing on all cylinders, racking up 65 first-half points and never looking back. The Bobcats shot an impressive 54.2% from the field and connected on 14 three-pointers while forcing 25 turnovers that led to 38 points off takeaways.
Ten different Bobcats found the scoring column, showcasing the team's depth. Victor Lado led the way with 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting, while Caleb Iheukwu added 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Ty Griggs and Quentin Wright each chipped in 13 points, with Wright going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. Ashton Lovette filled the stat sheet with 13 points and six assists, and Denim Johnson contributed 12 points and three steals off the bench.
Defensively, Peru State was relentless, recording 21 steals and eight blocks, holding Union to just 43.5% shooting. The Bobcats' bench provided a major spark, outscoring Union's reserves 58–15.
