Baseball Wins Series Against Baker

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Baseball team won their series against the Baker Wildcats after going 3-1 on Thursday and Friday.
 
Thursday, March 21, the Bobcats played their first two games of the series.
 
Game 1- Peru State 5 – Baker 4
 
The Bobcats started out slow as the Wildcats scored four in the first inning. The Bobcats got their first run of the game in the fourth inning after Garrett Pavletich hit a homerun. The Bobcats then had a big sixth inning scoring four. Randy Jimenez hit a single to center field that sent Wesley Bradford and Gustavo Rivera home. Efrin Torres doubled to left field to score Randy Jimenez and Doel Pina.
 
Dylan Pavletich started out pitching for the Bobcats and pitched for 5.2 innings. He was charged with 13 hits andforu runs but had three wildcat strikeouts.
 
Game 2- Peru State 6 – Baker 2
 
Doel Pina started out scoring for the Bobcats after he hit a homerun to score Randy Jimenez and himself. In the fourth inning, Will Reynolds reached first on a Wildcats fielding choice but an error scored Randy Jimenez. Gustavo Rivera hit a homerun in the fifth to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Xavier Solla singled to left field, scoring Will Reynolds. Garrett Pavletich singled to left field to score Solla.

Kevin Diaz pitched 6.1 innings for the Bobcats, only allowing three hits and two runs. Diaz had three Wildcats strikeouts.
 
The Bobcats played their second set of games on Friday, March 22.
 
Game 3- Peru State 10 – Baker 1
 
The Bobcats started out hot in the first half, scoring six . Gustavo Rivera singled to send Antonio Benitez in to score the Bobcats first run. Randy Jimenez had a sacrifice fly to rightfield, scoring Garrett Pavletich. Gustavo Rivera scored on a Wildcat error. Will Reynolds doubled to send Ivan Medina home to score. Doel Pina scored on a wild pitch by the Wildcats. Antonio Benitez doubled to send Will Reynolds in to score the final run of the first inning. In the fifth, Xavier Solla singled allowing Doel Pina and Randy Jimenez to score. In the sixth inning, Randy Jimenez doubled, scoring Gustavo Rivera and Garrett Pavletich.
 
Casey Ogden pitched all seven innings for the Bobcats, only getting charged with four hits and one run. Ogden also had seven strikeouts against the Wildcats.
 
Game 4- Peru State 1 – Baker 13
 
The Bobcats were able to shut out the Wildcats for the first four innings of the matchup. Randy Jimenez was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning to score Garrett Pavletich. Antonio Benitez, Garrett Pavletich and Xavier Solla each had a hit against the Wildcats.
 
Diego Oquendo pitched four innings for the Bobcats and was charged with six hits and six runs but had five strikeouts. Blake Denson pitched two innings having three strikeouts. Brenton Pitt pitched .1 inning and had one hit and three runs with Tobin Wingender pitching .2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs.
 
Next: The Bobcats will travel to Graceland University on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30th. The Bobcats will play at 1:00 and 3:00 both days.
