Baseball Splits with OPSU

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Baseball team split with Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. on Friday, February 16th. The Bobcats are now 2-7.
 
Game 1- Peru State 6 - OPSU 9
A rough fifth inning allowed the pioneers to score their nine runs.
 
In the third inning, the Bobcats scored their first three runs with a double by Will Reynolds sending Blake Denson, Doel Pina and Randy Jimenez to score. The Bobcats also got two in the 5th inning with Wesley Bradford doubling to center field to send Xavier Solla to home plate followed by hitting Angel Andrades to send Wesley Bradford to score. The Bobcats got their final score of the game in the sixth when Blake Denson scored off a double by Xavier Solla.
 
Kevin Diaz started out pitching for the Bobcats, only allowing six hits and five runs. Diaz also tallied nine strikeouts. Diego Oquendo allowed four hits while also having three strikeouts.
 
Game 2- Peru State 17 – OPSU 7
The Bobcats took a big lead in the fourth inning to seal the deal on the game.
 
The Pioneers were able to score three runs in the first inning. The Bobcats were able to score three runs in the second inning after walks and a wild pitch sent Doel Pina, Randy Jimenez and Blake Denson home. In the 4th inning, the Bobcats scored seven runs with the help of hits from Will Reynolds, Garrett Pavletich, Angel Andrades and Wesley Bradford. In the 5th, singles by Wesley Bradford and Jackson Lynch allowed Garrett Pavletich and Will Reynolds to score. Wesley Bradford scored off a wild pitch by the Pioneers. In the 6th, a double by Wesley Bradford sent Garrett Pavletich, Xavier Solla and Will Reynolds home to score.
 
Casey Ogden pitched three innings for the Bobcats only allowing eight hits and six runs. Tobin Wingender pitched two innings only allowing one hit and having two strikeouts. Blake Denson pitched having one strikeout with only one hit and one run.
 
Next: The Bobcats will travel to McPherson, Kansas to take Central Christian College Friday, February 23th and Saturday, February 24th.
