Peru State Volleyball Falls to No. 1 Wayne State in Exhibition Match

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State volleyball team fell to NCAA DII No. 1 Wayne State on Tuesday night. Since the game was an exhibition for the Bobcats it did not affect their record, the Wildcats record improved to 12-1 overall.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the match went…
 
The beginning of the first set was tight after Keiley Hein (Omaha) had a kill as Peru State trailed Wayne State 9-8. The Wildcats then went on a 13-1 run to take a 22-9 lead in the first.
 
The Bobcats would score three more points in the first set, two from kills by Hein and Kalyssa Fox (Casa Grande, Ariz.) and one from a Wildcat error. Wayne State won the first set 25-12.
 
Wayne State started the second set up 16-5, before the Bobcats could stop the run slightly with kills from Shealie Wiebers (Papillion) and  Kennedy Miller (Plattsmouth) but the Bobcats still found themselves down 20-8 in the second.
 
Peru State scored four more times in the second set after an error from the Wildcats an ace from Chantal Paniagua (Santo Domingo, D.R.), kills from Regan Osterhaus (Wetmore, Kan.) and Katelyn Shaw (Hastings). Wayne State won the second set 25-12.
 
Wayne State flexed its muscle in the third set as they were up 14-3. Kills from Wiebers and Addison Schneider (Humphrey) had the Bobcats trailing 15-5. Peru State only scored three more points in the set as Wayne State finished the set on a 10-3 run winning 25-8 and won the match 3-0.
 
Here is what head coach Madison Kindle had to say about the exhibition match…
 
"It was a such a great opportunity to compete against a high-level team tonight," said coach Kindle. "They embody many things we are trying to implement into our program, so it was great for us to visually see that."

"Excited to be back at home on Saturday against Culver-Stockton. Go Bobcats!"
 
Addison Schneider led the way in kills with five. Rylee Hellbusch (Plattsmouth) and Paniagua each had an ace. Hein, Miller and Elli Williams (Olathe, Kan.) each had a block. Allie Schneider (Humphrey) led the team in assists with 13 and Paniagua led the team in digs with six.
 
Peru State returns home for its homecoming match vs. Culver-Stockton this Saturday, September 30. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
