Peru State Softball Drops Two at Park

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State softball team on Thursday, April 27, dropped its doubleheader at Park in its final road series of the year. The Bobcats dropped the first game 9-1 in five innings and lost the second game 9-2.
 
Below is a breakdown of how each game of the doubleheader went…
 
Game 1 L 9-1 (F/5) @ Park
 
In the top of the first inning Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) reached base via a hit by pitch. Later in the inning the Bobcats had runners on the corners after Lanie Dreyer (Anniston, Ala.) singled to center. A strikeout and a caught stealing double play would end the top of the first.
 
Park went three up three down in the home half of the first inning. Peru State went down in order in the top of the second. The scoring started in the bottom of the second. The Pirates had a baserunner aboard on a leadoff walk. Then with one out a double down the right field line had Pirate runners in scoring position.
 
The first two runs of the game happened via errors in the field to make the score 2-0. Park scored two runs on one hit an error and left one on. Peru State went three up three down in the top of the third.
 
Park had runners on the corners in the home half of the third. Then an error scored the third run of the game for the Pirates. Park scored one run on two hits an error and left the bases juiced.
 
Jami Mans (Fairbury) hit a leadoff double to right center in the top of the fourth inning. She advanced to third via a throwing error. Kaelyn Hamblen (Papillion) hit a sac-fly to center field as the Bobcats brought the score within two trailing 3-1. Peru State scored one run on one hit an error and left no one on base.
 
Park in the bottom of the fourth had runners on first and second after a single and a walk. Later with one out an RBI single to center scored the fourth run of the game for the Pirates to make the score 4-1. Later in the inning with two down the Pirates hit an RBI double to left center to make the score 6-1. Park scored three runs on three hits and left one on.
 
Peru State had a two-out rally going in the top of the fifth after Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) singled through the right side, Sophia Summers (Gardner, Kan.) singled down the right field line and Ohlde singled up the middle. A groundout to third ended the Bobcat threat.
 
Park led off with a walk in the bottom of the fifth. Then a sac bunt moved the runner into scoring position. An error scored the seventh run of the game for the Pirates. Then a walk and a stolen base had runners in scoring position for Park. A passed ball made the score 8-1 Pirates. Then a fielder's choice RBI scored the ninth run of the game for the Pirates as they won the game 9-1 via the mercy rule in five innings.
 
Wessel pitched 4.1 innings striking out two batters giving up nine runs on six hits but only three were earned.
 
Dreyer, Mans, Ohlde, Summers and Wessel each recorded a hit. Hamblen had the lone RBI.
 
Game 2 L 9-2 @ Park
 
Ohlde hit a leadoff single in the top of the first through the left side. Ohlde was 60-feet away from the plate after moving to second on a groundout and third on a passed ball. Autumn Dixon (Stilwell, Kan.) hit a productive groundout as Ohlde came into score. A strikeout ended the top of the first. Peru State scored one run on one hit.
 
Park hit a leadoff single but a pop-up, flyout and a fielder's choice ended the first inning. Peru State went down in order in the top of the second. An RBI single down the left field line with two outs tied the game at one for the Pirates. Park scored one run on three hits and left two on base.
 
Peru State went 1-2-3 in the top of the third inning. An RBI single gave Park a 2-1 lead and then a double to left center made the score 3-1 Park. The Pirates scored two runs on three hits an error and left two on base.
 
Dixon reached on an error in the top of fourth but the Bobcats could not get much going offensively in the fourth. An RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning scored the fourth run of the game for the Pirates. Then a fielder's choice RBI made the score 5-1 Park. The Pirates scored two runs on two hits an error and left two on base.
 
Kylee Dieckmann (Holton, Kan.) was hit by pitch in the top of the fifth. Then she stole second to get into scoring position. Summers hit an RBI single to left to make the score 5-2. A flyout to center ended the inning. Peru State scored one run on one hit and left one on.
 
Park did not get much going offensively in the home half of the fifth inning. Dreyer hit a two-out single to center field in the top of the sixth. Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) reached base on an error as the Bobcats had runners on the corners.
 
A pop-up to second ended a promising inning for the Bobcats. Park hit a leadoff triple but the runner tried for home and was tagged out. A single and a double then had runners in scoring position for the Pirates. A single to third and an error scored two more runs for Park. Another error in the inning scored the eighth run of the game for the Pirates.
 
Park then scored on a passed ball to make the score 9-2. The Pirates scored four runs on four hits and two errors.
 
Peru State went 1-2-3 in the seventh.
 
Dreyer took the loss pitching 5.1 innings striking out one batter giving up nine runs on 14 hits but only two runs were earned. Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched 0.2 innings in relief striking out a batter.
 
Dreyer, Ohlde and Summers each recorded a hit. Dixon and Summers each had an RBI.
