(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State baseball team dropped its final non-conference game of the year at Midland in a 5-3 decision the second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to severe weather it will not be made up. The Bobcats are now 12-19 overall.
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
Peru State went three up three down in the top of the first inning. Midland hit a leadoff double then a walk had players on first and second and an error by the catcher scored the first run of the game. Then a two-run home run made the score 3-0. Midland scored three runs on three hits an error and left one on base.
The Bobcats went three up three down in the top of the second inning. Midland was able to get aboard via a couple of walks but did not get any runners across the plate.
Josue Francisco (San Cristobal, D.R.) hit a single in the third but Peru State was unable to bring him home.
Midland hit a leadoff single in the home half of the third inning. Then a walk had the Warriors with runners on first and second. Later in the inning a sac bunt scored the fourth run of the game for Midland. Then an RBI single gave Midland a 5-0 lead. The Warriors scored two runs on two hits and left one on base.
Peru State went down in order in the top of the fourth. Midland went 1-2-3 in the home half of the fourth inning.
Angel Andrades (Humacao, P.R.) hit a single to left but the Bobcats still could not get a run across the plate through five innings of play.
The Bobcats finally broke through on the scoreboard in the sixth. Francisco hit a leadoff single down the left field line.
Randy Jimenez (Santiago De Los Caballeros) reached on an error and
Jacob Aberg (Lincoln) walked to load the bases. Wes Bradford
(Bakersfield, Calif.) hit a three RBI double to right center as Peru State was now within two trailing 5-3. Peru State scored three runs on two hits an error and left one on in the sixth.
Peru State went three up three down in the seventh as they lost the game 5-3.
Brenton Pitt (Fremont) took the loss pitching four innings striking out two batters giving up five earned runs on five hits.
Luis Pacheco (Miami, Fla.) tossed two innings in relief striking out two batters and giving up a hit.
Francisco led the way with two hits and Bradford had two RBIs.
Peru State hits the road for a final conference series against William Penn this Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23. First pitch is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. each day.
