Peru State Softball Drops Game vs. Bellevue

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State softball dropped a midweek game to Bellevue 10-4 on Wednesday, April 19. The Bobcats are now 7-29 overall.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
 
In the top of the first inning Bellevue hit a two-out home run to take an early 1-0 lead. Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) hit a leadoff home run to center field to tie the game at one apiece. Andrea Page (Palisade) hit a single to left with two outs but a strikeout ended the inning. Peru State scored one run on two hits and left one on base.
 
In the top of the second, the Bruins hit two singles but the base runner was thrown out trying to stretch it from second to third was thrown out for the final out of the evening. Kylee Weiss (El Dorado, Kan.) and Sophia Summers (Gardner, Kan.) hit two singles in the home half of the second but then a flyout to left ended the inning.
 
Bellevue led off with a bunted single to third and the runner stole second. The Bruins later in the inning were threatening with runners in scoring position. Then an error by second base had the Bruins score two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Bellevue scored two runs on one hit an error and left one on base.
 
Peru State went three up three down in the home half of the third inning.
 
 
Bellevue hit a leadoff single in the top of the fourth, then a sac bunt moved the runner into scoring position. An RBI single made the score 4-1 Bruins. Bellevue scored one run on two hits and left one on base.
 
Lanie Dreyer (Anniston, Ala.) hit a single to leadoff the home half of the fourth inning. Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) hit a double into left center as the Bobcats now had runners in scoring position.
 
Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) then hit a two RBI single to make the score 4-3. Peru State scored two runs on three hits and left two on base.
 
Bellevue hit a two-run home run to left field with two outs in the fifth to make the score 6-3 Bruins. Bellevue scored two runs on two hits and left two on in the fifth.
 
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk but the Bobcats could get nothing going after and left the baserunner stranded.
 
In the top of the sixth inning Bellevue led off with a walk then a double to left center as the Bruins had runners in scoring position. Then an RBI single scored two runs to make the score 8-3. Bellevue then hit a two-run home run to make the score 10-3 Bruins. Bellevue scored four runs on four hits and left one on base.
Wessel hit a double to center field in the bottom of the sixth. Then Summers hit an RBI double to make the score 10-4. Peru State scored one run on two hits an error and left two on.
 
Bellevue threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh but left all three runners on the bags. Peru State was unable to score any runs in the seventh as they lost the game 10-4.
 
Dreyer pitched took the loss pitching 4.2 innings striking out two batters giving up six runs on eight hits four of which were earned. Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) pitched 0.1 innings giving up three earned runs on two hits. Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched two innings striking out two batters giving up an earned run on three hits.
 
Summers and Wessel each had two hits and Wessel had a team-high two RBIs.
 
Peru State returns home this Saturday, April 22,  and Sunday, April 23. They face No. 17 Central Methodist Saturday and No. 7 Baker Sunday which will be senior day. First pitch is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. each day.
