(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State men's basketball team has advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament presented by Ballogy after defeating No. 11 seed Mayville State 101-92 on Tuesday, March 7, in Jamestown, ND. Peru State will now face the host school No. 3 seed Jamestown on Wednesday, March 8, at Harold Newman Arena in Jamestown ND.
Peru State is now 25-7 overall and is tied for the second winningest team in program history. The Bobcats finished 17-5 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The 17 Heart wins is tied for most conference wins in history.
Peru State earned the No. 2 seed in the Heart Conference Tournament and won the quarterfinal matchup against No. 7 seed Graceland 78-56, they then won the semifinal matchup against No. 3 seed Evangel in OT 76-71 and fell to No. 1 seed William Penn in the championship game 95-82.
Peru State earned the Heart's second automatic bid after finishing the regular season in second place with William Penn winning the regular season and conference tournament.
Peru State has played in 33 games this season including the exhibition at Colorado State. Peru State is 14-4 in home games this season and have a 10-3 away mark they are now 1-0 in neutral site games.
Peru State scores 85.7 points per game, they shoot 51.7% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 69.3% from the line.
The Bobcats grab 34.7 rebounds per game and dish out 14.3 assists per game.
Lorenzo Anderson (Lithonia, Ga.) is the Bobcats leading scorer with 15.6 points per game. Jibril Harris (Chicago) is the leading rebounder for Peru State getting 7.7 boards per game. Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) is the team leader in assists with 6.5 per contest.
The Jamestown Jimmies are the No. 3 seed in the Liston Quadrant and have an overall record of 26-6. They defeated the No. 14 seed Bethel (Kan.) Threshers 81-70 in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.
The Jimmies are out of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The Jimmies finished with a 15-5 record in the GPAC, they are 13-4 at home with a 11-2 away mark and 2-0 on a neutral floor.
Jamestown earned the GPAC's automatic bid by winning the regular season. Jamestown in the GPAC Conference tournament defeated No. 8 seed Hastings College 76-61, they then faced No. 5 seed Concordia (Neb.) putting them away with ease 95-77. They lost to No. 3 seed Dordt in the GPAC championship game 86-81 a team they split the regular season with.
The Bobcats and the Jimmies only had one common opponent this season the Morningside Mustangs. Peru State lost to Morningside 89-77 in the first game of the season. The Jimmies split regular season with the Mustangs winning at home by 10, 81-71 and then a week later losing 75-48 on the road.
The Jimmies score 85.7 points per game shooting 50% from the floor, 38.6% from deep and 77% from the charity stripe.
Jamestown averages 37.5 rebounds per game and 15.8 assists per game.
The Jimmies have one of the NAIA Front Runners for Player of the Year. Mason Walters scores 26.3 points per game to lead the Jimmies. He's the nation's second leading scorer. Walters is averaging near a double-double as he also grabs 9.6 boards per game. Marc Kjos leads the Jimmies in assists with 4.1 a game.
