Men's Basketball Falls at Graceland in Heart Conference Tournament

(Lamoni, Iowa)- Men's Basketballl closed their season with a 95-68 road loss at Graceland on Tuesday night at the Morden Center in Lamoni, Iowa.

Peru State briefly grabbed the early momentum when Christian Tidiane converted a layup and the ensuing free throw at the 19:17 mark of the first quarter for a 3-1 lead off a feed from Quentin Wright. Graceland answered with a sustained run, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Josh Sanderson at 12:50 that helped the Yellowjackets build a 19-point cushion in the opening half. The Bobcats responded late in the period, as Tidiane knocked down a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left to trim the deficit to nine heading into the locker room.

Peru State made another push early in the second half. Ashton Lovette connected from beyond the arc at 18:22 to bring the Bobcats within 46-38, but Graceland quickly countered. Graceland continued to attack the paint and with 2:04 remaining pushed the lead into the 30s at 90-59. Caleb Iheukwu closed the scoring for Peru State with a 3-pointer in the final seconds, but the outcome was already in hand.

Offensively, the Bobcats were led by Denim Johnson, who scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added three rebounds and a block in 29 minutes. Iheukwu provided an efficient spark off the bench with 13 points, going 2 of 4 from 3-point range and 5 of 6 at the line in 16 minutes while also recording a block. Tidiane's timely first-half scoring, including his early three-point play and late 3-pointer before the break, helped keep Peru State within striking distance through much of the night.

As a team, Peru State shot 22 of 57 (38.6%) from the field, 5 of 22 (22.7%) from 3-point range and 19 of 24 (79.2%) at the free-throw line, while totaling five assists, five blocks and only eight turnovers.
