Peru State Softball Drops Home Opener to Midland

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State softball team lost its home opener to Midland 6-3 on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats fall to 2-11 overall and the Warriors improved 13-6 on the year.
 
Below is a breakdown of the game went…
 
In the top of the first inning the Warriors were able to get one run from an RBI single. Midland scored one run on two hits and left one on base. Peru State was able to get a lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple from Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) and an RBI single from Andrea Page (Palisade) to make the score 2-1.The Bobcats scored two runs on three hits and left two on base.

There was not much offense for either team in the second inning. The bats came back alive in the third inning for both teams. The Warriors tied the game on an RBI single to make the score two all.
 
Wilke blasted a lead off home run in the bottom of the third inning to have the Bobcats regain the lead at 3-2. Peru State was not able to score anymore as the Bobcats scored one run on one hit in the home half of the third.
 
Midland tied the game at three in the fourth inning on an error as the score was now tied at 3-3. Peru State went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Both teams in the fifth inning went three up three down.
 
The Warriors regained the lead in the top of the sixth after an RBI double to make the score the 4-3. Midland scored one run on one hit an error and left one on. Peru State in the home half of the sixth went down in order.
 
Midland extended its lead in the top of the seventh after a two RBI double to double up the Bobcats in the seventh up 6-3. The Warriors scored two runs on two hits an error and left one on in the final inning.
 
Peru State went three up three down in the final inning as they lost the game 6-3.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) took the loss pitching a complete game striking out three batters giving up six runs on nine hits but only one was earned.
 
Wilke led the way in hits and RBIs with two.
 
Weekend update the doubleheaders vs. Jamestown on Friday have been canceled, the doubleheader Saturday vs. Hastings has been postponed and the doubleheader vs. Morningside has been canceled.
 
Peru State will play a doubleheader at home vs. Briar Cliff on Wednesday. March 22. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
