Peru State Women’s Basketball Wins First Game of the Season

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Women's Basketball Team won their first game of the season in Lawrence, Kansas against Haskell Indian Nations University last night, 68-60. The Bobcats are now 1-0 on the season.  

The Bobcats started off the game with a jump shot from Hailey Ingram (Jr., Omaha, NE). Maddy Duncan (Sr., Hamburg, IA) had 8 points and Natasha Deal (Jr., Winnebago, NE) had 4 rebounds at the end of the first quarter.  

In the second quarter, Natasha Deal had six of the Bobcats nine rebounds. Samantha Stewart (Sr., Mount Ayr, IA) had the last points of the half with a good 3-point shot. The score going into the half was Bobcats 31-29 

Samantha Stewart came out hot with nine points and three rebounds in the third quarter. Haskell tried to make a comeback back in the third quarter, but they were rooted in the fourth by the Bobcats.  

In the fourth quarter, Samantha Stewart had a total of six points with a total of four rebounds. Hailey Ingram had four points and three steals, followed by Maddy Duncan who had four points for the Bobcats. 

 The Bobcats held back Haskell and won the game 68-60. The Bobcats were able to get 30 points from Haskell turnovers during their matchup.  

Samantha Stewart led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds during the matchup. Hailey Ingram had 16 points and six steals for the Bobcats. Natasha Deal added ten rebounds for the Bobcats. Maddy Duncan was also able to get 15 points and two rebounds in their win over Haskell.  

Next: The Bobcats (1-0) will be at home in the AWAC, Saturday, November 4th, at 5:30 p.m. to take on the College of Saint Mary Flames. Go Bobcats!
