Peru State Volleyball takes two sets from William Penn on Senior Day

Peru State Volleyball falls to the William Penn Statesman in a 5-set match on Saturday afternoon in the AWAC. The Bobcats are 3-14 in the Heart of America Conference and 8-22 overall. The bobcats celebrated their six seniors prior to the match.  

The Bobcats started the match with a kill by Elli Williams (JR., OIathe, KS) followed by a kill from Erison Vonderschmidt (FR., Falls City, NE) and a block by Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider helping the Bobcats go point for point with the statesman until the Statesman were able to take a 7-14 lead. Strong defense and kills by Erison Vonderschmidt and Elli Williams helped the Bobcats start to close the gap but the Statesman were able to pull out a win in the set with a score of 25-21.  

In the second set, the Bobcats came out on fire with strong serves from Allie Schneider, getting multiple aces, and back-to-back kills from Kalyssa Fox (JR., Casa Grande, AZ). Even though the Statesman were able to make their way back to keep the game close, Aces by Chantal Paniagua and a big block by Erison Vonderschmidt and Addison Schneider and a final kill by Allie Schneider finish off the set for a bobcat set win 27-25.  

The Bobcats had a rough start to the third set letting the Statesman get a 5-1 lead but a series of Strong serves and back-to-back aces from Sidney Peck (Sr., Manitoba, Canada) closes the gap for the team. The Bobcats kept fighting through the set with Kalyssa Fox, Keiley Hein and Erison Vonderschmidt getting multiple kills. Keeping the game close with kills and a block by Elli Williams assisted by Allie Schneider but the Statesman pulled ahead, winning the set 25-23.  

Allie Schneider started the fourth set off with a service ace. Even with big kills and strong serves by Sidney Peck, the Bobcats found themselves in a 17-12 deficit. The Bobcats didn't give up though and hard serves and undefendable kills from Allie Schneider brought the Bobcats back with a service ace from Sidney Peck  winning the set for the Bobcats 25-22.  

The Bobcats came out fighting hard in the fifth set keeping the score close. Elli Williams came out with a kill and a block assisted by Kalyssa Fox. Keiley Hein had some big kills as the Bobcats fought throughout the set. Even through the Bobcats never gave up their fight, the Statesman took the set and the win 15-10. 

Erison Vonderschmidt (FR., Falls City, NE) led the Bobcats with eleven kills and 20 digs on the day. Keiley Hein (SR., Omaha, NE) also tallied eleven kills and 12 digs for the match.  Kalyssa Fox had ten kills and for the Bobcats. Addison Schneider (SO., Humphrey, NE) tallied six blocks for the Bobcats, Allie Schneider and Elli Williams also tallied four blocks for the Bobcats. 

Chantal Paniagua (SR., Santo Domingo, D.R.) added 21digs.  Allie Schneider (SR., Humphrey, NE) had ten digs and 40 assists. 

Next: The Bobcats take on the Graceland Yellowjackets in Lamoni, Iowa on Tuesday, October 31st. The first serve is set for 5:00pm for Varsity Reserve followed by Varsity at 7:00.
