(Peru, Neb.)—On Saturday February 5, the Peru State men's basketball team cruised to a 75-50 victory Saturday evening in a win over Baker. Peru State improves 11-13 and 6-8 in conference play. Baker falls to 11-11 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
The Wildcats would get the first bucket in the game but then the Bobcats came out to play as they went on a 17-2 run capped off by a
Tyrece Griggs (Omaha), layup making the score 17-4. The Wildcats would get the lead back down to eight from a two-point jumper to make the score 17-9.
Later in the first half the Bobcats would extend their lead to ten a few times, the second time from a
Jibril Harris (Chicago) layup making the score 24-14 with 9:12 left in the half. Then the Baker offense woke up as the Wildcats went on a 7-2 run cutting the lead to four 26-22 with just over six minutes to play in the half.
The Bobcats would then go on a quick 5-0 run hitting a three-point shot was
Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Illinois), to go up 31-22 with 4:30 left in the half. The Bobcats and the Wildcats traded baskets down the stretch as the Bobcats took a six-point 38-32 lead into the locker rooms.
The second half started with the Wildcats clawing their way back into the game as they went on a 6-2 run cutting the Bobcats lead to two at 40-38. The Bobcats then took control of the game as they went on a 12-1 run capped off by a
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln), made layup forcing Baker to take a full timeout.
Out of the timeout the Bobcats would go on another mini 7-2 run making the score 59-41 with just over ten minutes to play in the game. The Bobcat lead would balloon up to 20 points from a three-pointer by Johnson.
The Wildcats cut it to 16 points with 6:37 remaining in the game making the score 64-48. The Wildcats would not have a run left in them as they would only score two more points for the rest of game.
The Bobcats went on a final 7-2 run to put the game out on ice at 71-50, before coming away with a 25-point win over Baker 75-50.

Bob Ludwig had to say about the dominant defensive performance from the Bobcats.
"I thought the guys were really locked in defensively in the second half," said Coach Ludwig. "If we can carry that over to these games down the stretch, it will go a long way."
The Bobcats shot 25-of-52 from the floor shooting 48.1%, the Wildcats shot 16-of-53 shooting 30.2% from the floor. The Bobcats were lights out from three as they were 8-of-18 shooting 44.4%, the opposite was true for the Wildcats as they were 5-of-26 from beyond the arc shooting 19.2%. Peru State went to the line 23 times connecting on 17 free throws good for 73.9%, while Baker went to the line 19 times connecting on 13 shooting 68.4%.
The Bobcats out rebounded the Wildcats by 20 grabbing 44 boards while the Wildcats only grabbed 24. The Bobcats had 30 points in the paint comparatively to the Wildcats 16. Peru's bench outscored Baker's bench 29-19.
Four Bobcats ended with double-figures, leading the way was Johnson with 18 points, Harris was next in scoring with 13 buckets and had another double-double with 13 boards. Tanksley and
Troy Houghton (Omaha), had 11 each.
Peru State has quick turnaround as the Bobcats have a nonconference tilt with the Briar Cliff Chargers, Monday February 7 at 7 p.m. at home.
