(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State women's basketball cruised to a 40-point win over Ozark Christian College 97-57 Friday night. The Bobcats improve to 4-2 overall on the year. Ozark Christian falls to 1-2 on the season.
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
The Bobcats started out slow as they were down five early 9-4. Peru State then cut the lead to one with layups by Jescenia Mosley
(Shenandoah, Iowa) and Samantha Stewart
(Mount Ayr) to make the score 9-8.
Ozark would then get the lead back out to six on a 5-0 run to make the score 14-8. The Bobcats then clawed their way back into the game on a 7-2 run with buckets by Mosley, and Olivia Williams
(Minneapolis, Minn.) and free throws by Maddy Duncan
(Hamburg, Iowa) and Natasha Deal
(Winnebago) to make the score 16-15.
Ozark would get the lead right back out to four 19-15 towards the end of the first quarter. Peru State ended the quarter on a 7-2 run with five points from Duncan and a bucket by Stewart.
Early in the second quarter the Bobcats were up 28-23 after a three-point shot by Duncan. Free throws by Madison Camden
(Glenwood, Iowa) and a layup by Danielle Howard
(Uniontown, Kan.) had the Bobcats up 32-23 with over seven minutes to play in the half.
Ozark cut the lead to six with a bucket from beyond the arc, but Peru State would quickly extend its lead out to 37-28 after a made three by Camden. Ozark would cut the lead to seven once before the half but the Bobcats finished the half on a 12-2 run to take a 49-32 lead into the break.
Peru State came out of the break hot with a 14-4 run to break the game wide open as the score was now 63-36 after a made layup by Deal. Also contributing to the run were buckets by Mosley, Stewart, Howard, a three by Camden and free throws by Stewart.
Ozark cut the lead to 25 after two free throws late in the third quarter but the Bobcats still lead 65-40. Ozark was able to cut the lead to 21 right before the fourth quarter but then Duncan made a layup to make the score 71-48 heading into the final quarter play.
In the fourth quarter the Bobcats went on a huge 17-3 run capped off by free throws from Josiee Sobotka
(Tobias). Towards the end of the fourth Deal hit a three as the Bobcats would go up 40 points 93-53. The final tally was 97-57.
The Bobcats shot 35-of-69 from the field shooting 50.7%, they were 7-of-16 from beyond the arc shooting 43.8% and they were 20-of-25 from the charity stripe shooting at an 80% clip.
Ozark shot 18-of-69 from the field shooting 26.1%, they shot 4-of-24 from three shooting 16.7% and from the line they were 17-of-29 shooting 58.6%.
Peru State outscored Ozark 52-20 in the paint, had 32 points off turnovers compared to Ozark's 14 and had 38 bench points compared to Ozark's 24.
Duncan and Stewart tied for the lead in scoring with 21 apiece. Camden fell behind them with 14 and Mosley finished with 11. Mosley also finished with 12 rebounds capping off her night with a double-double. Williams led the way in assists with five.
Peru State hits the road for its first exhibition match at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Saturday, November 19. Tip-Off is set for 12:05 p.m., in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
