Peru State Women’s Basketball Falls to Doane on Wednesday Night

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State women's basketball team fell to Doane Wednesday night 88-78 in Crete, Nebraska. The Bobcats fall to 3-2 on the season while the Tigers improve to 2-0 overall.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
 
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as neither team could take control and maintain a lead. Doane was able to stretch its lead out to four but Peru State would come back and tie the game at 13 all after Sam Stewart (Mount Ayr, Iowa) hit a jumper.
 
The Bobcats would tie the game once more in the first quarter after Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) nailed a three to tie the game at 16-16. Doane would close out the first quarter on an 8-2 run taking a 24-18 lead.
 
The Tigers continued their run out of the break from the end of the first quarter to the beginning of the second it would be a 14-2 run as the lead ballooned to 12, 30-18. The Bobcats then struck back with a 13-1 run of their own tying the game at 31.
 
 Contributing to the run were buckets by Jescenia Mosley (Shenandoah, Iowa), Josiee Sobotka (Tobias), and Duncan as well as free throws from Mosley and Hailey Ingram (Omaha). Ingram also knocked down a three during the run.
 
Doane at the end of the first half then went on a 9-2 run to extend its lead out eight, before Ingram hit a shot at the buzzer as Peru State would trail by five 40-35 at the break.
 
Ingram hit a shot from beyond the arc to bring the Bobcats within two at the start of the third quarter. Then a layup and a three by the Tigers extend their lead out to seven 45-38. The Bobcats then got it back to within five from a layup by Ingram.
 
Doane went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-point lead with around six minutes left in the third quarter. Sobotka then produced a big shot from downtown, along with a layup from Mosley and a three from Ingram had the Bobcats on an 8-0 run trailing by four forcing Doane to call a timeout.
 
The Tigers then extended their lead back out to eight immediately after the timeout, but the Bobcats hung tough all game long as free throws by Stewart and a three pointer by Ingram had the Bobcats trailing by three 56-53.
 
Peru State would end up trailing by five at the end of the third quarter. Stewart made a layup in the beginning of the fourth quarter to make it a three-point game as they trailed 61-58.
 
The Bobcats would cut the lead to three once more before the Tigers would extend its lead to eight. Peru State cut the deficit to four points with a little under five minutes to play from a layup by Mosley to make the score 70-66.
 
Peru State then was able to cut it to three from a layup by Stewart as they trailed 71-68. Doane then went on a 9-0 run to take a 80-68 lead. Sobotka then hit a three to cut the lead back to nine 80-71.
 
That is the closest the Bobcats would get as Doane closed out the ten-point victory 88-78.
 
Peru State shot 26-of-63 from the field shooting 41.3%, they shot 7-of-19 from beyond the arc shooting 36.8% and they shot 19-of-26 from the line good for 73.1%.
 
Doane was 28-of-59 from the field shooting 47.5%, they shot 6-of-21 from beyond the arc shooting 28.6% and they were 26-of-37 from the charity stripe shooting 70.3%.
 
Stewart had a double-double on the night with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Ingram led the way in scoring with 24 points. Mosley was two rebounds shy of a double-double of her own with 10 points and eight boards. Larry led the way in assists with four.
 
Peru State is at home next Friday, November 18, to face Ozark Christian College. Tip-Off is set for 5:00 p.m.
