Box Score 2 (Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State volleyball team went 0-2, over the weekend as they fell to No. 16 Central Methodist Friday, October 7, 3-0, and on Saturday, October 8, they fell to Missouri Valley College 3-0. Peru State is now 6-15 overall and 3-8 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
Below is a breakdown of how each match went...
Game 1 vs. No. 16 Central Methodist
Peru State was trailing by one early in the first set after kills by
Michelle Beer (Salem) and
Katie Mendick (Bellevue) to make the score 3-2. Then an 8-1 run by the Eagles had them take a 12-3 lead.
Kills by Beer,
Kim Krise (Briggsdale, Colo.) and Mendick had the 'Cats keep within nine as they were now down 14-5. CMU then went on a 11-3 run to close out the set winning 25-8.
Kennedy Miller (Plattsmouth) had the last three kills in the set for the Bobcats.
CMU raced out to a 10-3 lead in the second set before a kill by Krise would stop the run. Peru State would get the lead back within seven after a kill from
Rylee Hellbusch (Plattsmouth). That made the score 13-6.
A 9-3 run by the Eagles had them with a commanding 22-9 lead they would end up winning the second set 25-13.
In the beginning of the third set the Bobcats tried to keep pace as they trailed by five after a kill by Krise, as CMU led 10-5. After a service error by the Eagles, to make the score 11-6, they went on a 5-1 run to make the score 16-7.
The 'Cats went on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to within six 18-12, with a couple kills by Krise, a block by
Lauren Moubray (Mission, Texas) and errors by the Eagles.
A 7-1 run by CMU would close out the match for the Eagles 25-13 as they defeated the Bobcats 3-0.
Krise led the way in kills with seven, Mendick followed with five while Miller had three. Miller led the way in blocks with two, while Moubray finished with one.
Olivia Gordon (Oskaloosa, Iowa) had 12 assists, Hellbusch had eight and Krise finished with one.
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) had ten digs while
Chantal Paniagua (Santo Domingo, D.R.) had nine and
Kylee Fischer (Bellevue) finished with eight.
Game 2 vs. Missouri Valley College
Missouri Valley College started the first set on a 9-2 run, before a kill by Fischer stopped the run. A kill and an ace by Beer had the Viking lead down to five 10-5.
Then MVC went on a 15-3 run to end the first 25-8, Krise had two kills and Mendick had a block for the last three Peru State points.
In the second set, the 'Cats and Vikings would go back and forth and an ace from Hellbusch would have the 'Cats with an 8-7 lead. Later in the second set the Bobcats would tie the game at 14 apiece after an ace from Paniagua.
The Bobcats would tie the game again at 16 all after kills from Krise and Fischer. The Vikings then went on a 9-1 run to finish out the second set 25-17.
Peru State would start the third set up one 4-3 after a kill from Fischer. Then a quick 4-1 run from the Vikings had them take their first lead of third set 7-4. Later in the third Peru State got within two after a block assist from Fischer and Beer and an error on the Vikings trailing 14-12.
The Bobcats would only score four more points in the set from kills by Krise, Miller and Mendick. They would also have a block assist from
Paige Chanay (Holton, Kan.) and Krise.
The 9-4 run from the Vikings would end the set as they won 25-16 and won the match 3-0.
Krise led the way in kills with ten, Mendick finished with four and Miller finished with three. Beer, Gordon and Hellbusch each had one ace. Beer, Fischer and Mendick each had two blocks.
Gordon finished 13 assists, Hellbusch had six and Miller had one. Nichols led the way in digs with nine, Paniagua had six and Beer had five.
Peru State heads back to Missouri to face Culver-Stockton on Tuesday, October 11. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
