#11 Bellevue Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, September 28, Peru State was swept by the #11 team in the NAIA in the Bellevue Bruins 3-0. The Bruins improved to 12-2 overall on the year in the win on their home court. It should be noted that Bellevue moved up to eighth in the most recent poll published Wednesday morning.
 
Peru State fell to 3-16 overall on the year.
 
Bellevue would get the first point of set one but the 'Cats would strike back with a kill from Paige Crouch (Holton, Kan.) off the set from Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) to tie the game back up at 1-1.
 
The game would be tight as Peru State would take the lead off the kill from Alexandra Chavarria (Hollister, Calif.) off the set from Davis at 9-8 in favor of the 'Cats. The Bruins would trail by two at 10-8 after an attacking error.
 
Bellevue would go on an 9-1 run to lead 17-11 and would go on to win the set 25-16.
 
Just like set one, set two would start the same as the Bruins would get on the board first. Peru State would be able to tie the game up after a service error. The Bruin would go on an 8-0 to take a 9-1 lead in the early part of set number two.
 
The Bobcats would stop the run after a kill by Chavarria off the assist from Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R.) as Bellevue would still lead 9-2.
 
The Bruins would use the run in the early part of the game to eventually win set number two 25-10.
 
Bellevue would score first in the third set of the match. Peru State would take the lead after back-to-back errors on the Bruins to make the score 2-1 for the 'Cats. The game would be tied at two, and three.
 
Peru State would have a 4-3 lead after a kill from Davis. The Bobcats would go on a 5-2 run to take a 9-5 lead in the set.
 
The Bruins would rally off three straight points to be within one point of Peru State at 9-8 in favor of Peru State.
 
Peru State would maintain the lead as the Bruins would tie the game at 15 and the next point would take the lead at 16-15. The Bruins would not trail from this point on as they would go on to win 25-22.
 
Stats
 
Davis would have the lone service ace for the 'Cats.
 
Chavarria led the team in kills with seven. Crouch added six kills.
 
Davis had a team-high 14 assists with Rios adding eight.
 
Davis would lead the team in digs with eight as Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) and Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) each added seven digs.
 
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) would have one solo block and one assisted block. Chavarria and Michelle Beer (Salem) each would have two block assists.
 
Upcoming Games
 
Peru State will be back in action on Friday and Saturday of this week. On Friday, they will head to Des Moines, Iowa, to play Grand View University at 7 p.m. The Vikings are presently ranked 24th in the NAIA with an 8-9 record having played quite a number of ranked teams early in the season.
 
On Saturday, the volleyball team will head to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to play William Penn University at 1 p.m. and Columbia College at 4:30 p.m. Columbia is presently ranked 20th in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
