(Peru, Neb.) – On Friday, October 1, Grand View beat the Bobcats in Des Moines, Iowa 3-1 to improve to 11-9 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Vikings are 24
th in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
The 'Cats fell to 3-17 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Vikings would get two straight points in the first set of the game.
Alexandra Chavarria (Hollister, Calif.) would put down a kill off the set from
Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) to get the score within one as the Vikings would still lead 2-1.
Chavarria would earn another kill after Grand View scored another point. The score would remain 3-2 in favor of the Vikings.
Grand View would go on a 10-4 run to extend the lead to 13-7. The run by the Vikings would help in earning a first set victory 25-12.
In set two Grand View would score to make it 1-0 and would have an error to get the score back to even. After the score was tied at 2-2, Birkle would give the Bobcats the lead at 3-2 off a service ace.
The score would be tied at three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten before the Bobcats would take a two-point lead off two attacking errors on the Vikings.
Grand View would go on a 10-5 run to lead 20-15 in set two. The Vikings would go on to win the second set of the game 25-20.
Just like the previous two sets the first point in set number three goes to the Vikings. Peru State would come right back after a kill from
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) off the assist from
Hannia Rios (Toa Baja, P.R) to tie the game at 1-1.
The 'Cats would lead 3-1 after back-to-back attacking errors. After Grand View tied the game at 3-3, Peru State would take the lead back with a kill from
Paige Crouch (Holton, Kan.) off the assist from Rios.
The game would be tied again at four and at five before the Vikings would take a 5-4 lead in the third set. Grand View would never trail again, and they would go on to win the third set 25-10.
Stats
Birkle would have the lone service ace for the 'Cats.
Chavarria and Duarte would lead the team in kills with six each.
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the team with ten assists. Rios added nine assists of her own.
Birkle led the team with seven digs while
Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth) added six digs.
Duarte and Crouch added two block assists.
Michelle Beer (Salem) and
Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canda) each had a one block assist.
