(Peru, Neb.) – The Evangel Crusader softball team swept the Bobcats on Friday in a double header at the Centennial Complex Field on the Peru State campus.

The Crusaders won 8-4 and 11-3 in five innings to improve to 19-7 overall and 8-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) South Division. Peru State fell to 11-17 on the season and 5-8 in the Heart North.

Evangel struck first in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run.
Tyler Farrell recorded 13 put outs in the first game and added two hits

In the bottom of the second,
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) singled to right to start the inning.
Jerica German (Cortland) reached on an error with Farrell stopping at second.
Carli Kohout (Cortland) doubled to deep left-center to drive in the base runners to tie the score at 2-2. The 'Cats would end up leaving two on base at the end of the frame.

The Crusaders struck back with four in the top of the third to go back on top 6-2. They would add one more in the top of the fifth and the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 8-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Farrell singled to second. German stepped to the plate and hit a home run to right on a 1-0 count to cut the deficit in half at 8-4. At the end of the inning, again the 'Cats would leave two stranded and then could not get any additional runs in the seventh.

Evangel scored their eight runs on 11 hits and committed two errors. Peru State scored their four runs on eight hits and also had two errors.

Farrell and Kohout each had two hits to lead Peru State. German and Kohout each had two RBI to lead the team in that category.

Alana Krieser (Lincoln) started in the circle for Peru State and suffered the loss. Krieser tossed 5.2 innings and gave up 11 hits, 8 runs – 6 earned, and struck out 4.
Devyn Butorac (Westville, Fla.) threw 1.1 innings. Butorac did not give up any hits or runs and struck out 2.

The 'Cats got on the board first and scored what would be all of their runs in the bottom of the first. After an out,
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) singled to left. Farrell reached on a walk with Wilke moving to second. German singled to left to load the bases. Kohout earned a walk to drive in Wilke.
Alaina Lacy (Lincoln) singled to center to drive in Farrell and German to make it 3-0. The Bobcats would strand two on base.

Evangel would regain the lead in the top of the second with four runs. Then, in the top of the fourth, the Crusaders would explode for seven run to take an 11-3 lead.

Peru State would strand base runners in all but one of the other innings, but could not score.
Carli Kohout had two hits in the first game with two RBI

The Crusaders scored their 11 runs on eight hits and committed one error. Peru State scored their three runs on seven hits and had four errors.

Wilke led the team with two hits. Lacy had two RBI while Kohout was credited with one.

Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) started the game for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Worthington pitched 3.1 innings and gave up 7 hits, 11 runs – 6 earned, and struck out 2.
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) threw 1.2 innings. Leach gave up just 1 hit and struck out 3.
