Glennis Werner has announced the hiring of
Lena McCoy as the next head coach of the Bobcat softball program.

McCoy joins Peru State after serving as an assistant softball coach at York University, where she played an integral role in player development, recruiting, scouting, and building a competitive team culture. She brings a strong background in coaching, strength and conditioning, and athlete mentorship to the Bobcats.

"We are excited to welcome Lena to the Peru State family," said Werner. " Welcoming Lena to the Peru campus is a perfect fit. She's has had family in the area since childhood and realized her dream in coaching is in our community."

During her time at York, McCoy assisted with planning and conducting daily practices, developing position-specific training, analyzing game film and opponents, and mentoring student-athletes academically and personally. She also contributed to recruiting by evaluating prospective student-athletes and assisting with campus visits.

"I am beyond excited to take over the Bobcat Softball program and begin this new chapter. Coaching at the collegiate level has been my dream since I was young, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead such an amazing group of student-athletes." Said McCoy "My goal is to develop strong individuals, promote a positive environment to build a high level culture, and represent Peru State College with pride. I can't wait to get started and work alongside this team and the entire Bobcat community."

Prior to York, McCoy served as the head freshman softball coach and an assistant JV/varsity softball coach at Estherville Lincoln Central High School in Iowa. In those roles, she oversaw player development, fostered a culture centered on accountability and growth, managed communication with players and families, and helped implement practice plans and game strategies.

McCoy also brings valuable experience in strength and conditioning, having designed and implemented training programs for middle and high school student-athletes while emphasizing proper technique, injury prevention, and overall athletic performance.

McCoy earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Dakota Wesleyan University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Organizational and Global Leadership with a concentration in Sports Administration at York University.
