(Peru, Neb.) – On April 22, the baseball team swept a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division games against Graceland (Iowa). Game one was 7-1 as a final and game two was 11-2.

Peru State improved to 22-22-1 overall and 17-7 in the Heart North. Graceland fell to 12-26 overall and 5-19 in the Heart North.

Game One

Hector Torres had three hits and three RBI in the first game
In the bottom of the first inning,
Hector Torres (Gurabo, P.R.) singled to first. On a sac bunt, Torres advanced to second.
Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) singled down the right field line as Torres would score to give the Bobcats the early advantage in the game.

After an out to open the bottom of the second,
Jackson Tingwald (Ralston) reached on a walk.
Xavier Wright (Calumet City) doubled to deep left center as Tingwald would advance to third. After a Bobcat fly out, Torres singled to short as Tingwald and Wright scored. With two more runs in the second, the 'Cats would extend the lead to 3-0 heading for the top of the third.

Graceland would get on the board in the fourth inning as they would get one run to cut the 'Cats lead to two runs at 3-1.

The bottom of the fourth after an out,
Jose Chacin (Machiques, Venezuela) doubled to deep center.
Tyler Levy (Nebraska City) entered to pinch run for Chacin. Torres tripled to deep right as Levy would score.
Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) singled thru the hole at short stop as Torres scored. The Bobcats would extend their lead in the game to 5-1.

Manuel Caballero (Dolega, Panama) singled thru the hole at short stop to start the bottom of the fifth.
Jeremy Santiago (Ponce, P.R.) came in to pinch run for Caballero.
Jose Solis (Los Santos, Panama) doubled to deep left as Santiago advanced to third. Edwin Quinones
(Loiza, P.R.) entered to pinch run for Solis. Santiago scored on a stolen base as Quinones advanced to third on a stolen base. Tingwald hit a sacrifice fly to deep right as Quinones scored. The Bobcats would lead 7-1 at that point with that being the final score.

Peru State scored their seven runs on ten hits while committing just one error. Graceland scored their one run on seven hits while committing one error.

Torres led the team with three hits. Solis added two hits of his own. Torres led the team with three RBIs as Landaeta, Cendejas, and Tingwald each had one RBI.
Daniel Castillo tossed a complete game to earn the first game win

Daniel Castillo (Barranquilla, Columbia) pitched a complete game. Castillo pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits and 1 earned run. Castillo retired 8 Graceland batters on the way to the win.

In the bottom of the first after an out, Landaeta singled to center. Cendejas singled to shallow center as Landaeta would advance to third. Caballero hit a sacrifice fly to center as Landaeta would score to give the 'Cats the lead. The very next batter Solis hit a two-run homer over the center field fence on a 0-0 count. Peru State would lead 3-0 after one full inning was played.

Graceland would come back strong in the second as they were able to get two runs of their own. The Yellowjackets would still trail 3-2 heading into the bottom of the inning.

The bottom of the second started with Tingwald getting hit by a pitch. On a sac bunt, Tingwald would advance to second.
Gustavo Rivera (Bayamon, P.R.) singled to left center as Tingwald would score. Levy would come in to run for Rivera. After an out Levy would advance to second on a stolen base. Landaeta doubled to deep left center to brining Levy home to score. Cendejas reached on a walk and Caballero singled to deep left as Landaeta would score. The 'Cats would get three more runs as they would be leading 6-2 after two complete innings.

For the next two and one-half innings, there would be no scoring.

The bottom of the fifth, Peru State would get one run on a Caballero homer over the left field fence on a 3-2 count. Peru State led 7-2 after five complete.

After a scoreless inning by Graceland in the top of the sixth inning, the Bobcats' offense continued to roll as scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth. After an out, Rivera reached on a walk. Levy entered to pinch run for Rivera. Torres singled to right as Levy would advance to third. Landaeta singled to shallow right as Levy scored on the batted ball and Torres would advance to third. Cendejas hit a three-run home run over the left field fence on a 1-0 count. As the Bobcats take the win 11-2 in the second game.
