Grand View Softball Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – On April 22, the Peru State softball team lost both games against Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Divisional powerhouse Grand View (Iowa). The first game was 4-1 and the second game was 16-2.
 
Grand View, who is receiving votes in the most recent coaches' poll, improved to 27-9 overall and 21-3 in the Heart. Peru State fell to 14-24 overall and 8-15 in the Heart.
 
Game One
 
Peru State held Grand View scoreless in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the inning after an out, Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) reached base on a walk. Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) singled to left as Franco advanced to third. Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) doubled to deep right to drive in Franco for the first run of the game as the Bobcats would take the early lead in the game 1-0.
 
As the Bobcats would be scoreless the rest of the way.
 
Grand View offense would start in the top of the fourth as the Vikings would get two runs to take their first lead of the game 2-1.
 
The Vikings would get another two runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead 4-1.
 
Grand View scored their four runs on six hits while committing one error. Peru State scored their one run on three hits while committing no errors.
 
Franco, Wilke, and Farrell each led the team with one hit. Farrell would have the lone RBI in the game.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits and 4 earned runs. Leach struck out one Viking and earned the loss. Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 hit and no runs.

Game Two
 
Unlike game one the Vikings would come out hot in the top of the first. Grand view would score four runs to take the lead 4-0 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
 
The Vikings would put up another six runs in the top of the second to take a commanding 10-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second. Grand View would add another six runs in the top of the third to lead 16-0 at that point.

In the bottom of the third Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) started the inning off with a triple to center. Franco singled to short as Walker would get the Bobcats on the board. The Vikings lead 16-1 after three full innings.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) hit a home run after two outs for Peru State's only other run.
 
Grand View scored their 16 runs on 14 hits and committing no errors. Peru State scored their two runs on six hits while committing four errors.
 
Wilke and Franco each had two hits to lead the Bobcats. Wessel and Franco each had one RBI each.

Farrell pitched 1 innings and allowed 3 hits and 7 runs – 4 runs were earned. Farrell took the loss. Devyn Butorac (Westville, Fla.)  pitched 1 inning and allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs. Butorac struck out one Viking player. Worthington pitched 2 innings and allowed 5 hits and 6 runs – 5 of which were earned. Worthington also struck out one Grand View player. Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hit.
