Raven Softball Sweeps Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – The visiting Benedictine Ravens softball team continued their hot streak as they swept Peru State in Peru Sunday afternoon. The Ravens, winners of seven of their last eight, won 5-1 and 4-1.
 
With the wins, Benedictine improved to 28-14 on the season and 16-10 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) South Division.
 
Peru State fell to 14-22 on the year and 8-13 in the Heart North.
 
Game One Action
 
Peru State scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second when Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) homered over the left field fence on a 1-1 count.
 
Benedictine would take the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs.

The 'Cats would have runners at second and third in the bottom of the fifth, but could not score.
 
In the top of the sixth, the Ravens added two more runs.
 
The Bobcats would have a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh as they had the bases loaded, but a line out ended the game.
 
Benedictine scored their five runs on eight hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their lone run on seven hits and committed two errors.
 
Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.), Alaina Lacy (Lincoln), and Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) each had two hits for the 'Cats. Farrell was credited with the lone RBI.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) tossed a complete game and was tagged for the loss. Krieser threw seven innings and allowed eight hits, five earned runs, and struck out three.

Game Two Action
 
The Ravens struck first in the top of the second by scoring one run. They added two more in the top of the fourth to lead 3-0 at that point.
 
The Bobcats had left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and also left two on base in the second.
 
Peru State would score its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Carli Kohout (Cortland) doubled to deep right. After an out, Beckmann singled to right to drive in Kohout. Again, the 'Cats would leave two on base and trailed 3-1 at that point.
 
Benedictine would score its final run in the top of the fifth.

with her eyes closed). Beckmann had two hits in the 
second game.
 
In both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, Peru State left two base runners stranded.
 
Benedictine scored their four runs on ten hits and committed one error.
 
Peru State scored their one run on eight hits and did not have any errors.
 
Beckmann led the team with two hits and had the lone RBI.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) threw a complete game and was tagged for the loss. Leach allowed ten hits, four earned runs, and struck out six.

Peru State will host Grand View (Iowa) on Thursday in a double header scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Vikings, who are receiving votes in the most recent coaches' poll, are 25-9 overall and are 18-3 in the Heart North.
 
The 'Cats will then travel to eastern Iowa to face Clarke and Mount Mercy. On Friday, the Bobcats and the Pride will play a make-up game that was rained out when the teams met in Peru. Then, the teams will face off in a double header on Saturday. The Pride are 10-25 on the year and are 4-17 in the Heart North.
 
The Bobcats will finish the weekend against Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids on Sunday. The Mustangs are presently 21-9 and 14-8 in the Heart North.
