Bobcats Splits SB DH with CSM

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State and College of St. Mary (CSM) softball teams split a double header Monday afternoon on the Centennial Complex Fields in Peru.
 
The Bobcats took the first game 9-1 in five innings and dropped the second 1-0.
 
With split, the 'Cats are now 6-7 on the season. The Flames are now 4-5.

CSM scored their only run in the top of the first inning.
 
In the bottom of that frame, Peru State scored more than enough runs for the win. After an out, Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) reached on a walk as did Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.). After a second out, Devyn Butorac (Westville, Fla.) also reached on a walk to load the bases. Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) also walked to tie the score at 1-1. Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) doubled to left to drive in Farrell and Butorac with Franco moving to third. On a CSM error, Franco scored to make it 4-1. Alaina Lacy (Lincoln) followed with a single allowing Rothschild to score to make it 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the second, the 'Cats would plate three more runs. Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) singled to first. Wilke followed with a single to move Walker to second. After an out, TeAnna Tenopir (Waverly) singled to left to drive in Walker with Wilke advancing to third and Tenopir moving to second on the throw. On a wild pitch, Wilke scored and Tenopir moved to third. Later, Tenopir was forced out when Butorac singled. On a couple of passed balls, Butorac scored the third run of the inning to make it 8-1.
 
Neither team would score for the next couple of innings.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bobcats would add a run to force the mercy rule. Franco reached on a walk and then stole second. After an out, Lacy singled to second with Franco moving to third. Later, on a wild pitch, Franco scored the final run of the game.
 
Peru State scored their nine runs on seven hits and committed one error. St. Mary scored their one run on six hits and had two errors.
 
Lacy led the 'Cats with two hits. Rothschild was credited with two RBI while Tenopir, Franco, and Lacy each had one RBI.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) pitched a complete game for the win. Krieser allowed six hits, one run – unearned, and struck out five.

For most of the second game, it was controlled by the pitchers and their defense.
 
The Flames scored their run in the top of the fifth. The Bobcats did have a scoring opportunity in the bottom of that inning, but left a runner in scoring position.
 
CSM scored their one run on four hits and committed three errors. The Bobcats had three hits and did not commit any errors.
 
Leyla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) threw the first five innings and was tagged for the loss. Worthington gave up five hits, one earned run, and struck out two. Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) tossed the final two innings. Leach allowed one hit and struck out four.

Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats will be heading to Leavenworth, Kan., on Wednesday to face the University of St. Mary in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. The Spires are off to a 3-10 start.
 
Peru State will then begin their Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) play this coming weekend as they will host a pair of double headers on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Bobcats will face Clarke (Iowa) at 1 p.m. The Pride are 4-6 on the season.
 
Sunday's opponent will be Mount Mercy (Iowa) at 1 p.m. The Mustangs are off to a great start and are 7-1 on the year.
