Bobcat Baseball Falls to Missouri Baptist

(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Missouri Baptist in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday.
 
The Bobcats, with the loss, dropped to 1-11 on the season. The Spartans improved to 5-3.
 
Game Action
 
Peru State got on the board first in the top of the fourth as Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) homered over the right field fence on the first pitch he saw. That would prove to be Peru State's only run of the game although they did leave base runners on base in the top of several innings.

Mo Baptist scored three in the bottom of the fourth and it proved to be enough for the win. The Spartans added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final 5-1 score.
 
Missouri Baptist scored their five runs on six hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their one run on five hits and committed one error.
 
Hector Torres (Gurabo, P.R.) led Peru State with two hits while Cendejas was credited with the lone RBI.
 
Jose Diana (Santa Isabel, P.R.) started the game for Peru State and suffered the loss. Diana went 3.1 innings and allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, and struck out 5. Steven Ortiz (Yonkers, N.Y.) threw 3.2 innings. Ortiz allowed just 2 hits and struck out 6. Joshua Santiago (Carolina, P.R.) pitched 2 outs. Santiago allowed 1 hit, 2 runs – unearned, and struck out 1. John Laureano (Gurabo, P.R.) threw the final out.

Peru State is playing Indiana Tech in St. Louis today at 10 a.m. The Warriors started the started the season with seven straight losses before winning their first game on March 2. Indiana Tech was preseason ranked in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
 
The Bobcats will open at home on March 13 and 14 when they host Graceland (Iowa) in Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) action. Game time for the first game of the two double headers each day is 1 p.m. Presently, the Yellowjackets are 0-5 on the season.
