Peru State Softball Swept by Central Methodist

(Peru, Neb.) – On March 27 the Bobcat softball team lost both games to Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) opponent Central Methodist (CMU) in Fayette, Mo. The first game was 8-0 and the second game was 9-0.
 
CMU, the ninth-ranked team in the NAIA, improved to 24-1 overall and 10-0 in the Heart South. Peru State fell to 11-13 overall and 5-4 in the Heart North.
 
Game One
 
The Bobcats' only hit in the first game came in the first inning when Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) singled to shallow right. Franco advanced to second after an error, but was stranded there.
 
Central Methodist scored three in the bottom of the first, one in the third, three in the fifth, and then added one run in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the softball mercy rule.
 
The Eagles scored their eight runs on nine hits and had one error. Peru State did not have any errors.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) started on the mound for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Krieser tossed 4 innings and allowed 5 hits, 4 runs – 3 earned, and struck out 1. Devyn Butorac (Westville, Fla.) threw 1.2 innings. Butorac gave up 4 hits and 4 earned runs.

Game Two
 
Jerica German (Cortland) had the only hit of the game for Peru State in the top of the second after Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) had reached on a walk. The 'Cats had the bases loaded twice in the inning without scoring which was their main scoring opportunity in the contest. The Bobcats did also strand two base runners in the top of the fifth without pushing across any runs.
 
The Eagles scored three in each of the first, second, and fifth innings for the 9-0 five inning win.
 
Central Methodist scored their nine runs on 12 hits and committed one error. Peru State had two errors in the second game.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) started the game for Peru State on the mound and was tagged for the loss. Leach threw 3.1 innings and allowed 11 hits, 8 runs – 6 earned, and struck out 2. Hailey Wessel (???) threw 2 outs. Wessel allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run.

Peru State is facing Grand View in Des Moines on Monday. The Vikings, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, are currently 12-8 overall and are 6-2 in the Heart North.
 
The Bobcats will play a pair of Heart South Division opponents this coming Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Evangel Crusaders will be the opponents for a double header beginning at 2 p.m. Presently, Evangel is 14-6 on the season and are 3-5 in the Heart South.
 
On Saturday, the 'Cats host Missouri Valley in a double header beginning at 1 p.m. At this time, the Vikings are 10-7 overall and are 2-4 in the Heart South.
