(Peru, Neb.) – In the annual battle of the 'Cats, the Peru State Bobcats handily won the first game of a double header over Culver-Stockton 14-2 in Canton, Mo., on Saturday. In the second game, the Wildcats came back with a 5-2 victory.

With the split, Peru State is now 8-14-1 overall and 5-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Culver-Stockton is 7-16 on the season and 3-7 in the Heart North.

Peru State struck first in the top of the second.
Jackson Tingwald (Ralston) doubled to center field, but was thrown out stretching for third.
Jose Solis (Los Santos, Panama) doubled to center and then
Jesus Tavarez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) homed down the right field line on a 3-2 count to make it 2-0.

In the top of the fourth, after an out, Tavarez singled to right and would score when
Xavier Wright (Calumet City, Ill.) doubled to left center. Wright would then steal third. On a line out by
Manuel Caballero (Dolega, Panama), Wright would score to put the tally at 4-0.
Gustavo Rivera (Bayamon, P.R.) doubled to left field and then
Joseph Vargas (Juana Diaz, P.R.) entered to run for Rivera.
Hector Torres (Gurabo, P.R.) singled to center field to drive in Vargas.
Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) would reach on an error with Torres moving to third.
Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) singled to left field to score Torres with Landaeta stopping at second. Tingwald would reach on another error which scored Landaeta for the fifth run of the inning. Peru State would leave 7-0 at that time.

Culver-Stockton would score their two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-2.

The Bobcats would add additional runs in the top of the sixth. After an out, Cendejas doubled to right field.
Jeremy Santiago (Ponce, P.R.) entered to run for Cendejas. On a ground out, Santiago would move to third. Solis singled to center field with Santiago scoring. Tavarez followed with a single down the left field line with Solis stopping at second.
Victor Figueroa (Caguas, P.R.) entered to run for Solis. After a pitching change, Wright singled to left field with Figueroa scoring. Caballero singled through the left side with Tavarez scoring. Rivera followed with another single to score Wright for the fourth run of the frame making the score 11-2 at that point.

Peru State would add three more runs in the top of the seventh.
Josue Francisco (San Cristobal, D.R.) was a pinch hitter and earned a walk. Cendejas singled with Francisco moving to second. On a fly out, Francisco moved to third. Solis singled up the middle to bring home Francisco with Cendejas stopping at second. Tavarez reached on a fielder's choice with Cendejas moving to third and Solis thrown out at second. Wright earned a walk to load the bases. Caballero singled to center field to drive in the final two runs of the games.

The Bobcats scored their 14 runs on 20 hits and committed one error. Culver-Stockton scored their two runs on seven hits and had two errors.

Cendejas, Solis, Tavarez, Caballero, and Rivera all had three hits to lead Peru State. Wright added two more hits. Caballero was credited with four RBI while Solis, Tavarez, and Wright each added two RBI.

Jose Diana (Santa Isabel, P.R.) threw a complete game for his second win of the season. Diana allowed seven hits, two earned runs and struck out two.

The Wildcats got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Peru State would plate one in the top of the third. Caballero walked to start the inning and would go to second on a wild pitch. After an out, Torres singled through the right side to score Caballero to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Culver-Stockton would get that run back in the bottom of the third to lead 3-1 at that point.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats would get two more runs to put the score at 5-1.

The Bobcats would get their last run in the top of the fifth. After an out, Caballero singled to left and would eventually go to second on a wild pitch. Landaeta singled up the middle to make the score 5-2. Peru State would end up leaving the bases loaded in the frame without plating any more runs.

Peru State would have scoring opportunities in both the sixth and seventh, but could not capitalize.

Culver-Stockton scored their five runs on six hits and did not commit any errors. The Bobcats scored their two runs on seven hits and also did not have any errors.

Landaeta went two for four to lead the Bobcats. Torres and Landaeta each were credited with one RBI.

(Yonkers, N.Y.) threw a complete game for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Ortiz tossed six innings allowing six hits, five earned runs, and struck out six.

The two teams are completing their four-game series on Sunday.

The Bobcats will then play a non-conference double header in Sioux City, Iowa, on Tuesday when they face Briar Cliff beginning at 1 p.m. The Chargers are off to a 19-4 mark on the season.

Peru State will then travel to Grand View in Des Moines on Friday and Saturday for another Heart North two-day double header bit of action. The Vikings are presently 4-12 on the season and 1-7 in conference play.
