(Peru, Neb.) – For the first time since May 1, 2014, the Peru State softball team recorded a no-hitter in their opening game 1-0 win over William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Friday afternoon.
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) tossed the no-hitter, believed to be just the seventh in Peru State history behind good pitching on her part and excellent defense by her Bobcat teammates.
The last no-hitter pitched was by Devon (Massengale) Barnes against Evangel (Mo.) in the opening round of the conference tournament.
Peru State ended up losing the second game 6-4 to the Statesmen. The 'Cats are now 10-10 on the season and are 4-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. William Penn is now 7-7 on the year and 1-1 in the Heart North.

For the most part it was a pitcher's duel throughout although the Bobcats did have a couple of different opportunities to score.

Peru State did score its lone run in the top of the fifth inning.
Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) doubled to deep center.
Alaina Lacy (Lincoln) followed with a double to drive in Rothschild. That was the only run of the game which proved to be enough.
The Bobcats scored their one run on seven hits and did not commit any errors. William Penn did not have any hits and also did not commit any errors.
Lacy went three for three at the plate and had the lone RBI.
Krieser through a complete game for her sixth win of the season. She did give up one walk which kept her from having a perfect game. Krieser struck out seven Statesmen.

Game Two Action
William Penn got on the board first in the bottom of the first with one run and added another in the bottom of the second.
The Bobcats tied the game in the top of the third after leaving three base runners on in the first two innings.
Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) led off with a double to right.
Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) singled to right with Walker stopping at third.
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) reached based on a wild throw with Walker scoring and Franco moving to second. On a ground out, Franco scored to tie it at 2-2. The Bobcats would leave the bases loaded in the frame.
Alaina Lacy went
3-for-3 in the first
game and drove in
the lone run
The Statesmen would regain the lead in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs. William Penn would add two more in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2.
Peru State would get back in the scoring column in the top of the sixth.
Payton Beckmann
(Syracuse) singled to left to start the inning. After an out, Walker singled up the middle with Beckmann stopping at second. Franco reached on a fielder's choice with Beckmann forced out at third. Wilke doubled to shallow left to score Walker to make it 6-3. The 'Cats would leave runners on the corner.
In the top of the seventh,
Jerica German (Cortland) was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Rothschild singled with German stopping at second. After a pitching change, Lacy singled to right-center with German scoring to make it 6-4. Unfortunately, the Bobcats left two base runners on in this frame as well.
William Penn scored their six runs on eight hits and committed two errors. Peru State scored their four runs on 14 hits and had three miscues.
Walker and Rothschild each had three hits while Franco, Wilke, and Beckmann each had two hits. Wilke, Farrell, German, and Lacy were each credited with one RBI.
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) started on the mound for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Leach pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 7 hits, 5 earned runs, and struck out 2.
Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) threw 1.2 innings and allowed 1 hit and 1 unearned run.

Upcoming Games
The Bobcats are in Canton, Mo., on Saturday to face Culver-Stockton in a Heart North double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are 2-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Peru State is scheduled to face Grand View in Des Moines on March 23 with the double header scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Vikings are presently 8-6 on the year and are 2-0 in the Heart North.
