(Peru, Neb.) – After the Bobcat softball teams started the season 3-1, the 'Cats dropped a pair against McPherson College in McPherson, Kan., on Sunday.

The Bulldogs would take both games on Sunday, with first game ending 7-6. The second game ended 8-0.

Both teams are now 3-3 on the season.

Game One Action
Â
Peru State would get on the board in the top of the first.
Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) singled to the pitcher's mound.
Carli Kohout (Cortland) singled to third as Walker advanced to third.
Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) singled to center as Walker was able to score. The Bobcats would get one run but left Kohout at third.

The Bulldogs would score three runs in the bottom of the second to lead 3-1 in game one.

In the top of the third, Walker singled to shallow right. Kohout reached based on an error by McPherson as Walker would advance to second.
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) would reach base as she was hit by a pitch. Walker advanced to third and Kohout would advance to second. Farrell singled to left as Walker scored with Kohout advanced to third and Wilke to second.
Hailey Wessel (Malcom) reached base on the fielder's choice. Wilke advanced to third and Farrell advanced to second.
Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) reached on a walk, Wilke would score, Farrell advanced to third, and Wessel would advance to second.
Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) was hit by a pitch and Farrell would score. Peru State would score three runs and would take the lead at 4-3.

The next two innings the game would be scoreless for both teams.

In the bottom of the fifth McPherson would get four runs to take the lead back 7-4.

In the top of the seventh. Tenopir singled thru the hole at short stop. Franco hit a two-run home run to deep center. The Bulldogs would retire the next two batters to win a tight game 7-6.

McPherson would score their seven runs on 13 hits and committed two errors. Peru State would score their six runs on nine hits and committed one error.

Farrell led the way for the 'Cats with three hits. Walker and Tenopir each was credited with two hits. Franco led the way with three RBIs. Farrell was credited with two RBIs.

Alana Krieser (Lincoln) started the game and tossed 4.2 innings. Krieser allowed 7 runs on 2 earned and 11 hits. She struck out 5 bulldogs.
Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) tossed 1.1 innings. Worthington gave up two hits, zero runs, and struck out two.

The Bobcats and Bulldogs were both scoreless in the first two innings.

McPherson would get on the board in the bottom of the third with two runs.

Peru State had several opportunities in the top of the third and left the bases loaded. They also had numerous runners in position in the fourth.

McPherson would score their eight runs on ten hits and committed zero errors. Peru State would go scoreless on two hits and committed two errors.

Devyn Butorac (Westville, Fla.) started the game. Butorac tossed 3.0 innings and allowed 3 hits, 4 runs, and 3 unearned runs. Butorac struck out 1 Bulldog batter.
Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) tossed 1.0 inning. Bitz allowed 2 hits and 2 unearned runs.
Cheyenne Leach (
Wymore) tossed 1.1 innings. Leach would allow 5 hits and 2 unearned runs.

The softball team will be playing in the Friends Tournament next weekend in Wichita, Kan. Peru State will be playing Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) on March 5. First pitch is at 12 p.m. On the same day, the 'Cats will play Doane at 4 p.m. and Hastings at 6 p.m.
On day two of the Friends Tournament, the softball team will play Kansas Wesleyan University at 12 p.m. and at 2 p.m. they will play Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University.
