(Peru, Neb.) – What was to be a home double header for the Peru State baseball team turned out to be an away pair of games on Saturday. In anticipation of the rain which did hit Peru Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats decided to play their games at Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa, in order to get the contests played.
The teams split the double header with the Yellowjackets taking game one 7-4 and Peru State winning the second 10-2.
With the split, Peru State is now 3-12 overall and 1-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Graceland is now 4-7 on the season and is also 1-1 in the Heart North.
As this was to be a home game for the Bobcats, Graceland was only able to sync a box score for the first game, but some play-by-play was available for the second game.
Adam Cendejas had two hits and three RBI's in the second game win
Game One Information
Graceland scored four runs in the top of the first to jump on the 'Cats. Peru State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-1. That score would hold until the fifth inning.
Both teams would score two in the fifth and then each team scored one run in the sixth for the final 7-4 score.
The Yellowjackets scored their seven runs on eight hits and did not commit any errors. Peru State scored their four runs on nine hits and committed three errors.
Hector Torres (Gurabo, P.R.), Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela), Jesus Tavarez (Santo Domingo, D.R.), and
Manuel Caballero (Dolega, Panama) each had two hits for the Bobcats. Landaeta was credited with two RBI while Torres and Tavarez each had one.
Jose Diana (Santa Isabel, P.R.) tossed 4.1 innings for Peru State and was tagged for the loss. Diana allowed 7 hits, 6 runs - 4 earned, and struck out 7.
Daniel Castillo (Barranquilla, Columbia) threw 2.2 innings. Castillo gave up 1 hit, 1 earned run, and struck out 4.

Game Two Action
Peru State scored first in the bottom of the second.
Jackson Tingwald (Ralston) singled to left-center and went to second on a ground out. Tavarez singled to center with Tingwald scoring to put the Bobcats up 1-0.
Graceland would take the lead in the top of the fourth with their two runs.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) reached on a wild throw. On a wild pitch, Cendejas would move to second.
Jeremy Santiago (Ponce, P.R.) entered to run for Cendejas at that point. Tingwald singled to right with Santiago scoring to tie the game at 2-2.
John Laureano earned the win in the second game
The 'Cats would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Gustavo Rivera (Bayamon, P.R.) singled to center to start the inning.
Tyler Levy (Nebraska City) entered to run for Rivera and would move to second on a wild pitch. Torres reached on a walk. Levy would then steal third to put runners on the corner. On a wild pitch, Levy scored and Torres moved to second. After an out, Cendejas singled to left to score Torres to put the Bobcats ahead 4-2.
That was the end of the webcast information available, but the Bobcats plated six in the bottom of the sixth for the final 10-2 score.
Peru State scored their ten runs on ten hits and committed two errors. The Bobcats actually held the Yellowjackets hitless in the game, but walks led to the two runs for Graceland which committed five errors.
Cendejas, Tingwald, and Tavarez each had two hits to lead the 'Cats. Cendejas was credited with three RBI while Torres had two RBI. Tingwald, Tavarez, and Rivera each had one RBI.
Steven Ortiz (Yonkers, N.Y.) started the game for the Bobcats on the mound. Ortiz did not allow any hits, but gave up two runs and struck out eight in four innings.
John Laureano (Gurabo, P.R.) threw two innings and struck out one and earned the win.
Sebastian Rodriguez (Cayey, P.R.) threw one inning and struck out two.

Upcoming Games
The second set of the double header was to have been played on Sunday, but the much needed rain has moved those games to Tuesday. Presently, they are scheduled to be played in Peru, but it there is a chance the teams will meet up again in Lamoni.
Peru State is scheduled to host Mount Mercy (Iowa) in a four-game set on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21 with the double headers scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Mustangs have had a strong start to their season as they are 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the Heart North.
