(Peru, Neb.) – In their first action of the year, the McPherson Bulldogs swept the visiting Bobcat baseall team Friday in McPherson.

The Bulldogs won the double header winning 13-5 and 16-11.

With the wins, McPherson improved to 2-0 while Peru State falls to 1-6.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with scoring three runs in the second inning.
Hector Torres scored the first run of the day for Peru State.
Torres added three hits and two RBI in the second contest.

The 'Cats would get
Hector Torres (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) on base after he was hit by a pitch. Peru State would get on the board in the top of the third inning when
Josue Francisco (San Cristobal, D.R.) hit a two-run shot to right. The Bobcats trailed 3-2 at the end of the third inning.

Peru State would leave the bases loaded in the top of the fourth without pushing across a run.
Â
The Bulldogs would score five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-2 lead heading to the top of the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Francisco singled down the left field line and would advance to second on a balk.
Jackson Tingwald (Ralston) flied out to left- center field and Francisco was able to advance on the play to third.
Adam Cendejas (Chino Hills, Calif.) grounded out up the middle and was able to get a RBI on the play as Francisco scored. The 'Cats got one run, but still trailed 8-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

McPherson got one run on three hits in the bottom of the fifth and after no runs by the Bobcats the Bulldogs got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 11-3 going into the top of the seventh.

After the first two batters got out in the top of the seventh, Tingwald reached the base on McPherson drop. Cendejas singled up the middle and was able to get Tingwald home safe for a RBI. McPherson still led 11-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Bulldogs would keep extending the lead after scoring two more runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh to lead 13-4.

In the top of the eighth, the 'Cats go on the board one last time. Jesus Tavares
(Santo Domingo, D.R.) singled thru the hole at second base.
Luis Landaeta (Porlamar, Venezuela) singled to second and Tavares would advance to third. Torres singled down the right field line and Tavares would able to score to give the Bobcats their final run of the game.

McPherson scored their 13 runs on 18 hits and committed two errors while Peru State scored their five runs on 13 hits while committing three errors.

Landaeta went three of four in the contest while Francisco, Tingwald, and Tavares each got two hits. Cendejas and Francisco were credited with two RBIs each. Francisco was credited with the Bobcats lone homerun on the day.

Daniel Castillo (Barranquilla, Colombia) started the game on the mound and suffered the loss. Castillo allowed nine hits, eight earned runs, and struck out seven.
Devin Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) threw two innings allowing six hits, three earned runs, and struck out three.
Garrett Bassinger (Nebraska City) tossed the final two innings. Bassinger gave up three hits, two runs, and struck out five.

Second Game Action

Peru State was the first to score and did so in a big way in the top of the second. Tingwald reached on a walk and
Jose Solis (Los Santos, Panama) stepped to the plate and hit a two-run blast over the right field fence on a 3-2 count. Landaeta singled to center and then Adams reached on a walk. Both base runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Jose Chacin (Machiques, Venezuela). Torres singled up the middle to drive both runners home making it 4-0 at that point. Francisco got a single with Torres moving to second.
Jeremy Santiago (Ponce, P.R.) entered and hit a sacrifice bunt to a move the base runners. Cendejas followed with a single to drive home Torres and Francisco putting the score at 6-0.

McPherson scored one in the bottom of the second and then struck for an eight-spot in the bottom of the third to take a 9-6 lead. The Bulldogs added seven more in the bottom of the fourth for their 16 runs.

The 'Cats would score a few more runs, but it would not be enough.

In the top of the fifth, after two outs, Solis doubled down the left field line. Landaeta followed with a triple to drive in Solis to make it 16-7.

Then, in the top of the sixth, Chacin doubled down the right field line.
Tyler Levy (Nebraska City) entered to run for Chacin. Levy would advance later on a ground out and would score on a Santiago single to make it 16-8.

The Bobcats would add some more runs in the top of the final inning. Tingwald singled to center and would go to third on a Solis single to right-center. On a ground out, Tingwald scored and
Casey Steffens (Omaha) moved to second. Steffens had entered to run for Solis. After an out, Chacin singled to center with Steffens scoring. Levy entered to run for Chacin and would go to second on a single by Torres. Levy would advance to third on the throw and would later score as Francisco singled thru the hole at second to make the final score 16-11.

The Bulldogs scored their 16 runs on 14 hits. Peru State scored their 11 runs on 15 hits. Neither team committed any errors.

Torres and Solis each had three hits and two RBI to lead Peru State. Francisco, Landaeta, and Chacin each had two hits. Cendejas and Landaeta each added two RBI.

Luis Pacheco (Miami, Fla.) tossed the first 2 innings for the Bobcats. Pacheco gave up 3 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 3.
Juan Rodriguez (Bayamon, P.R.) threw 1 out. Rodriguez gave up 3 hits and 4 earned runs.
Manuel Caballero (Dolega, Panama) threw 1.1 innings and was tagged for the loss. Caballero gave up 6 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out 3.
Reiner Mendez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) went 1.1 innings. Mendez allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 1.
Blake Feeken (Crete) tossed the final inning. Feeken did not allow any hits and struck out 1.

The Bobcats are scheduled to head to Plainview, Texas, this coming weekend. However, the weather forecast at this time does not appear to be good. If the weather changes, they will face Wayland Baptist in a pair of double headers on Friday and Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Wayland Baptist is presently 4-2 on the season.

If they cannot go next weekend, Peru State will then play a pair of games on a neutral field in Joplin, Mo., on Saturday, Feb. 20. They will face Northwestern (Iowa) at 10 a.m. and then take on Morningside (Iowa) at 3 p.m. Northwestern has yet to play this season while is 2-3 having played five games in the fall.
