Hot Shooting First Half for the Ravens as they Top Peru State

(Peru, Neb.) – Shooting over 60% in a half of college basketball generally would mean your team is winning and that is exactly what happened Wednesday night. The Benedictine College (Kan.) Ravens would outscore Peru State 50-27 in the first half en route to an 82-45 win in Peru.
 
The Ravens improved to 14-5 overall and 11-4 in conference play. The 'Cats fell to 9-9 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
 
 The Bobcats currently sit fifth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. They are one spot of making the post-season conference tournament with six conference games remaining.
 
First Half Action
 
After the Ravens would score to open the game, Amitai Afenjar (Los Angeles) made a three off the pass from Skylar Wilson (Omaha) and Afenjar followed with a two-pointer to give the Bobcats a 5-2 lead with 18:57 remaining.

Benedictine would tie the game at 5 before Wilson would make a field goal to once again give the Bobcats the lead in the game at 7-5 with 17:57 to go.
 
The Ravens would go on a 7-0 run before Isaac Simpson (Papillion) hit a three off the pass from Wilson to cut the Ravens lead to two at 12-10 with 15:13 remaining in the half.
 
The next possession the 'Cats would take the lead after Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) made a three off the pass from Wilson.
 
Benedictine went on a quick 6-0 run before a made bucket by Afenjar would end the Ravens run. It cut their lead to three at 18-15 with 11:42 remaining in the first half.
 
At the 8:55 mark Simpson would make two-pointer off the assist from Tanksley to get the 'Cats within one possession at 21-18.
 
The Ravens would go on a 16-2 run to blow the game open. Tanksley would make a three off the pass from Wilson to stop their run. The Ravens would lead 37-25 with 3:48 left to go in the game.
 
The 'Cats would score just two more points the remainder of the first half while Benedictine would on another 13-2 run to take a 50-27 halftime lead.
 
Second Half Action
 
The Ravens would score the first four points of the second half. Tyrece Griggs (Omaha) would make one of two from the line to get the Bobcats on the board in the second half.
 
Tanksley made a bucket off the pass from Wilson with 17:31 remaining with the score at 57-30 with the Ravens lead.
 
The scoring would go back and forth but the 'Cats would only get as close as 23 points down and that was at the 8:03 mark. DJ Fields (Omaha) hit a bucket off the pass from Tanksley to make the score 66-43.
 
The Ravens would have a commanding lead the rest of the way.

Benedictine connected on 30 of 57 field goals for 52.6% which included 15 of 27 from three for 55.6%. At the charity stripe, the Ravens made 7 of 10 for 70%. Peru State connected on 17 of 59 field goals for 28.8% which included 6 of 26 from behind the arc. At the free throw line, the 'Cats were 5 of 11 for 45.5%.
 
Benedictine grabbed 38 rebounds while the Bobcats nabbed 22.

The Ravens dished out 24 assists while having 11 turnovers. Peru State handed out ten assists while committing ten turnovers.
 
Benedictine registered eight blocks and five steals while the 'Cats recorded six blocks and five steals.
 
Peru State Individual Stats
 
Tanksley led the way for Peru State with 12 points. Two other Bobcats were in double figures, as Afenjar and Griggs each added 10.
 
Afenjar had a game-high eight rebounds.
 
Wilson added team-high six assists while Tanksley handed out three.
 
Simpson led the team with three blocks with Afenjar and Fields each register one.
 
Wilson and Griggs each had a team-high two steals.
 
Upcoming Games
 
On Feb. 6 the men's basketball team will be heading to Springfield, Mo., to take on Evangel University (Mo.) with the tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m. The Crusaders are currently 9-12 overall and 8-8 in the Heart South.
 
The 'Cats will be back at home on Monday Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. when Mount Mercy University (Iowa) comes to town.
 
On Feb. 11 they will be back on the road as they travel to Baldwin City, Kan., to take on Baker University. Tipoff is schedule to be at 7:30 p.m.
