(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State men's basketball team won their fifth straight home game of the year after winning a Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) game 74-59 over Graceland University.
The Bobcat improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Heart while the Yellowjackets fell to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
1st Half
Peru State would score first in the game with a layup by
Troy Houghton (Omaha) as the Bobcats led first 2-0 with 18:56 on the clock. Graceland scored on their next possession to tie the game at two before the Bobcats scored four straight points from a made layup from
Dedoch Chan (Rochester, Minn.) and a
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) jump shot. The 'Cats led 6-2 with 17:04 until intermission.
At the 14:19 mark, the Yellowjackets would have a 10-9 lead over Peru State before Chan made a layup off the pass from
Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.). The score would be 11-10 in favor of the Bobcats.
The 'Cats extended the lead after a made three from
Ajantae Hogan (Lincoln) off the pass from
Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) as Peru State led 26-18 with 7:26 remaining until the halftime break.
The 'Cats would end the first half on a 22-14 run to lead after 20 minutes 33-24 in this Heart matchup.
2nd Half
Graceland would score first coming out of the break with a jumper. The 'Cats came right back with a made layup from
SJ Allison Jr. (Dallas, Texas) off the pass from Chan. Peru State led by nine points at 35-26 with 19:28 remaining in the game.
Peru State would have their first double-digit lead on Graceland after Tanksley made a three off the pass from
Skyler Wilson (Omaha) as they led 38-26 with 18:50 on the clock. At the 17:20 mark, Graceland would be able to cut the Bobcat lead to single digits at 40-32.
Peru State would once again lead by double digits at the 14:54 mark after Harris made a three off the pass from Baker to make the score 45-34.
The rest of the game would be tight as the Bobcats would edge them out in scoring 29-25 the rest of the way as the Bobcats would win their sixth game of the year 74-59.
Stats
Peru State shot 26-51 for 51% which included 9-19 from three for 47.4%. Peru State was a perfect 13-13 from the charity stripe.
The Bobcats had four players in double figures. Hogan led the way with 15 points off the bench while Wilson added 12. Allison Jr. added 11 off the bench while Tanksley chipped in ten.
Chan led the way on the boards with ten while Harris added eight and Wilson added six.
Baker had four assists to lead the team while Harris added two. Hogan, Chan, Wilson each had one assist.
Chan added two steals which would be a team high while Houghton, Tanksley, Wilson, and Hogan each had one steal in the game.
Baker had both of the blocks for the 'Cats.
Upcoming Game
Peru State will be back at home on Dec. 11, when Grand View University (6-3, 1-1) comes to the AWAC. Tip-off time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
