(Peru, Neb.) – On Thursday, November 4, Peru State women's basketball team would travel to Crete to take part in a three-day Classic being hosted by Doane University. The 'Cats would get beat on day one by the hosts 74-50.
The Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season while the Bobcats fell to 1-3 on the year.
1st Quarter
Peru State would strike first at the 9:04 mark when
Lycia Peevy (Paris, Ark.) made a layup and converted the free throw for the old fashion three-point play. Doane would score their first points of the game at the 5:12 mark as the Bobcats would lead 3-2 at this point in the quarter.
Doane led for the first time in the game on the next possession before Peru State would take the lead right back with two made free throws from
Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa). The lead would be 5-4 in favor of the Bobcats.
The Tigers went on an 11-3 run to end the first quarter as they would lead 15-8 after ten minutes of play.
2nd Quarter
Doane made the first two points of the quarter at the 8:29 mark as the lead would grow to nine at 17-8. Peevy made a three with the assist from Samnatha Stewart
(Mount Ayr, Iowa) to cut into the Tigers lead but would still trail 17-11 with 7:34 until intermission.
The Tigers would end the first half on an 23-5 to take a lead going into the break 40-16.
3rd Quarter
Doane made would score the first points of the second half on a three pointer with 48 seconds off the clock in the quarter. The Bobcats would get on the board with a layup by Duncan as the Tigers led 43-18 with 8:27 left in the quarter.
Duncan made a jump shot at the 6:36 mark to bring the Bobcat deficit to 23 points with the score at 43-20.
At the 2:35 mark, Doane would have its largest lead at 28 points as they led 53-25. After 30 minutes of play the Bobcats would trail 55-29.
4th Quarter
The Tigers would score the first three points in the final ten minutes of the game to lead 58-29.
Peru State got on the board in the quarter off a made three points by Peevy off the pass from Jescenia Mosely
(Shenandoah, Iowa). The 'Cats still would be behind 58-32 with just over eight minutes to go.
Doane would not vanquish the lead from there. The final score would be 74-50 win for the Tigers.
Stats
Peru State made 17-63 for 27% from the field which included 7-26 from three for 26.9%. The Bobcats would make all their free throws going a perfect 9-9 for 100%.
Duncan and Peevy would lead the team in scoring with 11 each.
Stewart led the team with three assists while
Adreal Bell (Independence, Mo.) added two.
Peevy grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while
Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.) and Mosely each grabbed five.
Stewart led the Bobcats with three steals while Peevy would have a game-high three blocks.

Peru State will be back in action today as they take on Barclay College in the second day of the Doane Classic. Tip-off for game two will be at 5:00 p.m.
