Peru State Wins 83-70 to Keep Win Streak Alive

(Peru, Neb.) – The Bobcat men's basketball team picked up their fourth win in a row on Friday, Nov. 26, as they topped Northwestern in the Dordt Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa.
 
Peru State improved to 5-5 on the year while the Red Raiders, who were receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, fell to 7-2 on the year.
 
1st Half
 
Northwestern scored the first points of the game off a made jumper. The 'Cats took the lead off a made three from Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) off the assist from Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) as they led 3-2 with 19:32 left in the half.
 
The lead would change once again in the first minute of the game when the Red Raiders made a layup to lead 4-3. Bobcats took the lead right back from made layup from Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.) off the pass from Tanksley to lead 5-4.

The Bobcats extended their lead off a made layup from Johnson. Peru State led by nine at the 2:36 mark after a made three-pointer from Skyler Wilson (Omaha) off the pass from Troy Houghton (Omaha) with the score at 38-29.

The Red Raiders would end the first half on a 7-0 to cut Peru State lead to two after the first 20 minutes of play at 38-36.

2nd Half

The Bobcats made a layup from Tanksley coming out of halftime to extend their lead to four points at 40-36.

At the 15:39, Peru State would be up nine points once again after a made jumper from Johnson. The 'Cats led by double digits for the first time in the game at the 13:37 mark after a made three from Wilson off the pass from Houghton. The score was 55-44.

Johnson hit a three-pointer off the pass Wilson to lead by 13 points which will be the largest lead the Bobcats would have in the game.

Peru State used their big second half to outscore the Red Raiders 45-34 in the second half to win their fourth-straight game in a row 83-70.

Stats
The Bobcats would shoot 57.1% which included 44.4% from three making 12-27 attempts. At the free throw line, Peru State was perfect at 7-7 for 100%.

Wilson led the Bobcats in scoring with 20 points while four other Bobcats hit the double-figure mark. Harris added 15 on 7-9 shooting while Johnson added 13. Houghton would have 11 and Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) added 10 points off the bench.

Harris led the 'Cats on the boards with eight while Baker was second on the team with four.

Wilson had four assists which would be a team high. Houghton added three assists while Tanksley and Harris had two assists each.

Harris led the team with three steals while Houghton added two steals in the game.

Houghton had the lone block for Peru State.

Upcoming Game

Peru State will be back in action on Nov. 27 for day two of the Dordt Classic against Dordt University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
