Day Two Loss for Peru State MBB in the Dordt Classic

 (Peru, Neb.) – The Dordt men's basketball team won their own Classic by topping Peru State 79-72 on Saturday, November 27.
 
The Defenders improved to 9-3 overall while the 'Cats fell to 5-6 on the year. Dordt snapped Peru State's four-game winning streak.
 
1st Half
 
Dordt scored first in the contest after a made three while the 'Cats would score on their next possession on a Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.) jump shot. The Bobcats would get within one of the Defenders at 3-2 with 17:03 on the clock.
 
Peru State led 4-3 at the 17:27 mark after a made jumper from Troy Houghton (Omaha).  At the 14:41 mark the Bobcats extended the lead to 11-7 after a Harris three off the assist from Houghton.
 
The lead would change once again at the 11:50 mark when Dordt made a three to make it 14-13 in favor of Defenders. The rest of the half would go back and forth and after 20 minutes of play the game would be all tied up at 34 all.
 
2nd Half
 
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) scored off two free throws to break the tie to begin the half as the Bobcats led 36-34 with 19:33 on the clock. The game would be tied after Harris made a three off the pass from Skyler Wilson (Omaha) with the score at 45.
 
Dordt led by five points at 59-54 with 6:54 left in the game as Tanksley made a jumper to cut into the lead to make it 59-56 in favor of the defenders.
 
Dordt would lead by seven points at the 3:55 mark as they would go on to win 79-72.
 
Stats
 
The 'Cats shot 28-58 for 48.3% which included 5-16 from the three for 31.3%. At the free throw line, Peru State shot 11-14 for 78.6%.
 
Harris led the game in scoring with 34 on 14-18 shooting. Tanksley added eight while Houghton finished with seven.
 
Harris led the team with 12 rebounds which gave him the double-double in the game. Houghton added eight rebounds in the game.
 
Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) had three assists which led the team.
 
Harris added three steals which would be a team high. Wilson, Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.), Ty Griggs (Omaha) each had one steal in the game.
 
Tanksley had two blocks in the game while Isaac Simpson (Papillion) added one block in the contest.
 
Upcoming Game
 
Peru State will be back in action on Wednesdays, Dec. 1, when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take on Heart of America Athletic Conference foe Mount Mercy University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs are 4-3 on the year and 0-1 in the Heart.
