(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State men's basketball team won their third straight game in a high scoring game 92-89 over Heart of America Athletic Conference team Clarke University Tuesday night in the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
With the win, the 'Cats improved to 4-5 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
The Pride fell to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the Heart.
1st Half
The 'Cats scored first in the conference game as
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) made two free throws to begin the half. The Pride took the lead right back as they made a three as they led 3-2 with 19:26 remaining on the clock.
Clarke would extend the lead with another three pointer. Peru State cut into Pride's lead with a three from
Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.) off the pass from
Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) as the score would be 6-5 with 18:17 until halftime.
At the 9:49 mark, Peru State would take the lead 21-20 after a made free throw from
Troy Houghton (Omaha).
The Pride would go into halftime leading the Bobcats 45-38 after the first 20 minutes of the game had been played.
2nd Half
Two Harris free throws would cut the lead to five for the 'Cats at 45-40 with 19:22 on the clock. The Pride would on a 12-7 run to have their first double-digit lead in the game at 57-47 with 15:08 on the clock.
At the 9:07 mark the 'Cats have come back to get within four points at 71-67. Two free throws by Ajantea Hogan
(Lincoln) would cut the Pride lead to two points with 9:01 on the clock. Peru State would have their first lead of the second half with a three pointer from Harris off the pass from Baker.
Hogan made a layup to extend the Bobcats lead to three points at 74-71 with 7:28 on the clock. Clarke would regain the lead after they made three free throws to lead 76-74.
Bobcats came right back and took the lead 77-76 after a three point play by Baker.
Bobcats took the lead for the final time at 87-86 with 1:52 on the clock. They would hold on to win a tight conference match-up 92-89 to capture their third straight victory.
Stats
Peru State shot 33-64 for 51.6% which included 8-26 from three for 30.8%. At the free throw line, the Bobcats made 18-23 for 78.3%.
The 'Cats had five players in double figures as Harris led the way with 18 points. Tanksley added 16 points while Baker contributed 15 for Peru State.
Hogan added 14 points on 5-7 shooting while
Skyler Wilson (Omaha) finished the game with 13 points.
Baker and Wilson led the way on the board each grabbing seven.
Baker led the way with seven assists while Wilson added six.
Wilson added two steals which was a high for the team. Houghton, Baker,
SJ Allison Jr. (Dallas, Texas), and
Christian Tidiane (Council Bluffs, Iowa) each added one steal.
Baker led the way with three blocks while Harris added one.
Upcoming Games
Peru State will be playing in the Dordt Classic on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27. On day one of the Classic, they will play Northwestern at 5 p.m. On day two they will face Dordt University at 4 p.m. All games will be played in Sioux Center, Iowa.
