Peru State WBB Wins on the Road 79-60 against Hastings College

(Peru, Neb.) – On Monday, Nov. 1, the Peru State women's basketball team would get their first win of the 2021-22 season after traveling to Hastings, Neb., to face off against the 2-0 Hastings College Broncos. The Bobcats come out with a 79-60 victory.
 
Peru State improved to 1-2 on the year while Hastings fell to 2-1 on the year.
 
1st Quarter
 
The 'Cats would get on the board first with a three-pointer by Hailey Ingram (Omaha) off the assist from Lycia Peevy (Paris, Ark.) as the Bobcat took the lead 3-0 with 30 seconds off the clock. After the Broncos cut the lead to one at 3-2, Jescenia Mosley (Shenandoah, Iowa) made a layup to extend the one-point lead to three-point lead off assist once again from Peevy.
 
Ingram connected again from long distance with 6:56 left in the quarter with the pass this time coming from Mosely as Peru State led 8-4. Later, the Bobcats would see a double-digit lead when Peevy make a layup as the score was 19-9 in favor of the Bobcats.
 
The first quarter ended as Peru State led 22-14 after the first ten minutes have been played.
 
2nd Quarter
 
The second quarter would start just like the first quarter when Ingriam scored. Instead of a three, Ingram hit a layup off the assist from Mosley. Mosley followed with a layup of her own as the Bobcats led 26-14 with 9:08 remaining in the first half.
 
In the next three minutes of the game there would be only two points that would be scored as the Broncos scored to make it 26-16.
 
Hastings started climbing back in the game as the halftime score would be Bobcats 32, Broncos 28, as the first 20 minutes had been played.
 
3rd Quarter
 
The 'Cats would get on the board first off an Ingram made free throw as Peru State led by five at 33-28. Two made free throws by Maria Alcantara (Recife, Brazil) would see the lead extend for the Bobcats as they would now lead 35-28 with 50 seconds gone in the quarter.
 
Alcantara hit a layup at the 6:56 mark as the Bobcats run continued as they have outscored the Broncos 10-1 in the third quarter to lead 42-29.
 
Peru State would use the big run in the third quarter that saw them outscore Hastings 34-11 during the quarter. The Bobcats led 66-39 entering the final ten minutes of the game.
 
4th Quarter
 
Hastings would score the first points of the last ten minutes as they would still trail 66-41 with just over 9:30 left in the game.
 
The Broncos scored another six straight points before an Ingram made jumper would fall off the pass from Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) as the score would be 68-47 with 8:16 left to go.
 
With just under five minutes to go in the game Peevy would connect on two free throws as the Bobcats led by 18 with score reading 72-54. Peru State would eventually win 79-60.
 
Stats
 
Peru State made 28-57 field goals for 49.1% which included 8-20 for 40% from three-point range. The 'Cats would also make 15-23 free throws for 65.2%.
 
Ingram led all scorers with 19 on 50% shooting. There was three other Bobcats in double figures as Peevy went for 11 while Duncan and Mosely each added ten.
 
Peevy and Duncan were tied for game-high in assists with four.
 
Peevy grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds which four of them were offensive. Peevy also recorded her second double-double of the season. Alcantara and Mosley each added eight rebounds.
 
Peevy also recorded two steals and three blocks while Ingram and Mosley had two steals each.
 
Career Milestones
 
Head women's basketball coach Ian Holleran secured his first win as a head coach with many more to come in the future.
 
Upcoming Game
 
Peru State will be back on the road versus Doane University in Crete, Neb., on Thursday, Nov. 4, for the Doane Classic. Tip-off will be shortly after 7:00 p.m. The Bobcats will be looking to gain a little revenge for their first loss of the season which came at the hands of the Tigers.
