(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Peru State Women's basketball team would win their second straight game off an overtime win 75-72 over Waldorf University on day three of the Doane Classic in Crete. With the win the Bobcats improved to 3-3 on the season while Waldorf falls to 1-2 on the year.
1st Quarter
Waldorf would score the first three points of the quarter off a made three but the Bobcats made a layup on the other end by
Hailey Ingram (Omaha) off the pass from Jescenia Mosely
(Shenandoah, Iowa). The Bobcats trail 3-2 in the opening minutes of the quarter.
The Bobcats would have their first lead of the game at the 8:25 mark when
Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) made a layup as Bobcats led 4-3.
At the 3:49 mark the Bobcats would pull back within two points of Warriors after
Samantha Stewart made jump shot with the score at 10-8.
After the first ten minutes of play the game would be knotted up at 16 all.
2nd Quarter
Peru State started the second quarter on a high note with a three-pointer from
Libby Baumert (Plattsmouth) off the pass from Ingram. The Bobcats led 19-16 with 9:35 remaining until intermission.
A Warriors 4-0 run saw the lead change again as the Bobcats would trail 20-19. Later, two Stewart free throws saw the Bobcats only trail by two points at 24-22 with 5:35 until the half.
Peru State would gain the lead back after an old-fashioned three-point play by Stewart at 25-24 with 5:20 remaining in the quarter.
The rest of the half was tight for the last five minutes of the half but the Bobcats trail by four points at 33-29.
3rd Quarter
The 'Cats pulled within two points of the Warriors after a made layup from
Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.).
The game would be tied at 33 after a Baumert would make a layup. The Bobcats would take a 40-35 lead over the Warriors after Stewart made a layup at the 6:25 mark. With 12 seconds left to go in the quarter Ingram would make a layup to give the Bobcats the lead at 48-47 after 30 minutes of play.
4th Quarter
Waldorf started the quarter on a quick 7-0 run to take the lead right back at 54-48 with 8:56 remaining in the game.
The run would stop after
Maria Alcantara (Recife, Brazil) made a free throw at the 7:46 mark as the Warriors still led 54-50 at this point.
Waldorf responded with a 4-0 run to get the lead back to six points at 58-52 with 6:37 left to go in the game.
With 10 second left to go in the game and trailing by two points, Ingram changed that by a made jump shot to tie the game at 64 all and send the game to OT.
OT
The Bobcats started the OT off with a Stewart made layup as the Bobcats would have the lead 66-64 with 4:02 left to go.
Duncan would extend the lead for the 'Cats with a three pointer with 3:24 on the clock as they led by five points at 69-64.
The 'Cats would go on to win an OT thriller 75-72 as the Bobcats win their second game in a row at the Doane Classic.
Stats
Peru State shot 29-69 for 42% which included 4-18 on from long distance from 22.2%. At the free throw line the Bobcats would connect on 13-18 for 72%.
Stewart led the way for the Bobcats scoring 25 points on 10-13 shooting and 5-6 from the free throw line. Three other Bobcats hit double-figures as Miller added 14, Ingram had 12, and Duncan finished with 11.
Duncan led the way with assists with four while Ingram was second on the team in assists with three.
Miller led the team with ten rebounds and also recorded a double-double in the game. Stewart added seven rebounds.
Stewart also recorded five steals in the game. Baumert and Mosely added one steal each.
