Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

College of Saint Mary Wins 59-54 over Peru State WBB

(Peru, Neb.) – On Monday, Nov. 8, the College of Saint Mary (CSM) women's basketball team won a tightly-contested college basketball game on the road over the Bobcats 59-54. With the win for the Flames, they improved to 7-0 on the year.
 
The 'Cats fell to 3-4 after the loss on the 2021-22 season.
 
1st Quarter
 
CSM made a free throw to take the early lead in the game. A jumper by Hailey Ingram (Omaha) would put the Bobcats ahead 2-1.
 
The lead would be extended for Peru State after a made layup by Maria Alcantara (Recife, Brazil) with the pass coming from Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa). A layup by Ingram would extend the lead to 6-1 with 6:55 left in the quarter.
 
The Flames would go on 8-0 run to take the lead 9-6 before Duncan ended the run with a made jumper as College of Saint Mary led 9-8 with 2:26 left to go in the quarter.
 
The Flames would end the first ten minutes leading 15-12.
 
2nd Quarter
 
College of Saint Mary would have their first double-digit lead in the game after opening the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 23-12 with 7:07 left in the half. The run would end with a made free throw by Libby Baumert (Plattsmouth) as the score would be 23-13 in favor of the Flames
 
At the 4:50 mark of the game Baumert made three-pointer to cut the lead to seven at 23-16. The Bobcats would get another three to go in, this time coming from Duncan off the pass from Lycia Peevy (Paris, Ark.) as the lead would be within four at 23-19 with 3:36 on the clock.
 
After the first 20 minutes of the game the Flames would still hold on to the lead at 30-24.
 
3rd Quarter
 
At the 7:45 mark of the second half the first two points would be for the Flames as they led by eight at 32-24. The first points for the 'Cats would come at the 6:41 mark off a jump shot by Ingram as the lead would be down to six at 32-26.
 
At the 1:38 mark the Bobcats would trail by three points at 41-38 off a made layup by Ingram off the pass from Duncan.
 
After 30 minutes of the game had passed, it is still close at 44-40 in favor of the Flames with the last ten minutes of the game to decide it.
 
4th Quarter
 
A bucket by College of Saint Mary would make it a six-point lead until two made free throws by Duncan made it a four-point game with 7:30 left to in the game.
 
At the 6:39 mark the Bobcats would tie the game at 46 after a made layup by Baumert. The Flames would make a three on the other end to break the tie.
 
After a two make free throws by Duncan, Peru State would trail by one point at 49-48 with 4:29 left in the game.
 
At the 1:09 mark the Flames would extend the lead to five points until Alcantara made a jump shot to make it a one possession game at 57-54 with 49 seconds remaining.
 
College of Saint Mary would hang on to win the game 59-54 to remain perfect on the year.
 
Stats
 
Peru State shot 18-72 for 25% which included 2-27 from long distance for 7.4%. At the free throw line, the Bobcats made 16-19 for 84.2%.
 
The Bobcats were led by Ingram as she had a game-high 18 points while Duncan added 11 and Baumert contributed ten points.
 
Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.) led the team with ten rebounds while Baumert and Alcantara added seven each.
 
Duncan led the team with two assists while Alcantara, Peevy, Natasha Deal (Winnebago), and Baumert each added one.
 
Ingram had a game high four steals. Duncan and Peevy added one steal each.
 
Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats will be back on the road as they travel to York, Neb., to take on York College. The tip-off will be at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10.
