(Peru, Neb.) – On Sat., Nov. 6, the Peru State Men's Basketball team lost to the Bellevue Bruins on the day two of the Bellevue Classic 61-52. The Bruins improved to 3-2 on the season while the Bobcats fell to 1-3 on the campaign.
1st Half
Peru State would score the first two points of the game off a made layup by
Troy Houghton (Omaha) as the 'Cats led 2-0 at the 18:06 mark of the half.
Bellevue would take the lead after making a three on the other end as this would be the start of a 12-0 run for the Bruins. The lead would grow to ten points at 12-2 at the 14:45 mark. The run ended as
SJ Allison Jr. (Dallas, Texas) made a three off the assist by
Henry Tanksley (Lincoln) as the Bruins led 12-5 at this point in the game.
The Bobcats cut the game to single digits at 16-8 after a made layup by
Amitai Afenjar (Los Angeles, Calif.) at the 12:10 mark of the game.
The Bobcats cut into the Bruins lead again as
Isaac Simpson (Papillion) made a three off the pass from
Skyler Wilson (Omaha) as it would just be a seven point game at 27-20 in favor of Bellevue with 2:50 remaining until halftime.
The Bruins would hold a halftime lead of five points at 29-24 after the first 20 minutes of the game.
2nd Half
The Bobcats made a jumper coming out of the half by
Jibril Harris (Chicago, Ill.). The lead would be within three points with the score at 29-26 with just 19 seconds gone in the half.
After the Bruins scored on the other end, the Bobcats made two free throws by Harris to get within two points of the Bruins at 31-29 with 17:46 left in the game.
The Bruins would go on an 8-2 run to lead 39-31 with 15:24 left in the game.
At the 13:41 mark the Bobcats scored two points off a Tanksley dunk to trail by four at 41-37. The 'Cats would get it to one possession game at 41-39 after a made jump shot from Wilson. A quick 5-0 run by the Bruins would see the lead grow to 45-39 as Ajante Hogan
(Lincoln) ended the run after a made layup.
The rest of the game would be close as the Bruins would find a way to win 61-52 on the second day of the classic.
Stats
Peru State shot 20-52 for 38.5% which included 4-15 form three for 26.7%. At the charity stripe the Bobcats were 8-13 for 61.5.
Harris was the only Bobcat in double figures as he had 10. Hogan added nine and Wilson had eight points.
Tanksley had four assists which led the team as Wilson would have three assists.
Harris added nine rebounds and was one short of a double-double for the game. Wilson was second on the team with eight.
Houghton, Tanksley, Wilson, Harris, and Hogan each were credited for one steal in the game.
Houghton and Hogan had one block each.
